The Private Sector Housing Team is part of the Consumer Protection and Licensing Directorate of Civic Pride.
As a Housing Enforcement Officer, you will investigate poor conditions in the Private Rented Sector. You will respond to service requests from residents, take part in pro-active enforcement action and also deal with licensing of houses in multiple occupation.&nbsp; The role will demand knowledge of Housing legislation, enforcement procedures and casework, HHSRS and guidance.
The successful applicant is likely to have worked in a local authority Environmental Health and Housing setting for a couple of years and will be able to demonstrate good knowledge and experience of associated statutory and regulatory functions.
The post holder is required to drive in the course of their duties and the candidate must have a valid driving licence and use of own vehicle with appropriate insurance for work. Our Private Sector Housing team seeks to bring about improvements in the conditions and standards of management of private sector housing.
You’ll assist the team in achieving this through the delivery of housing enforcement standards to ensure private sector residential accommodation throughout the District meets statutory standards and help bring about improvements in conditions and standards of management for residents.
As a Private Sector Housing Officer, you’ll be on the frontline of this vital work working with the Senior Private Sector Housing in the enforcement of housing standards through formal action as necessary in line with Housing legislation.

We’re looking for a committed and customer focused individual to join our Private Sector Housing team. You’ll be based at our Sevenoaks offices, but often out and about across the District – working with residents in their homes, liaising with contractors, and helping to ensure housing standards are upheld.
You'll be appointed at Band C (£29,330 – £31,773), with the opportunity to progress to Band D (£34,072 - £36,830) in your second year of employment, subject to gaining sufficient experience and demonstrating the required level of competence.
What you will be doing:

The LGA has been working with MHCLG to scope a new, fully funded support programme designed to provide capacity and capability support, at no cost, to councils seeking to establish, enhance, or accelerate their council housebuilding programmes. This initiative forms part of the government’s commitment to deliver 1.5 million safe and decent homes during this parliament, supported by a generational increase in social and affordable housebuilding.&nbsp;
We’re at the beginning of this exciting journey and will be co-designing this new programme with councils. To make it happen, we’re building a brand new team to shape, test, and deliver this work.
This new team will sit within the LGA’s Partnerships &amp; Improvement Directorate, alongside our other Place programmes: the Planning Advisory Service, One Public Estate, and the Joint Inspection Team.
Roles are offered on a full-time fixed term contract for one year, with opportunities for extension subject to further MHCLG funding. 
The LGA is a member of the Local Government Pension Scheme. Secondments are particularly welcomed – these roles offer excellent development opportunities and exposure to both local and national housing delivery work.

If you’re passionate about social housing and want to help councils succeed, we’d love to hear from you. You’ll bring insight into council housing delivery, a solid understanding of local government, and a collaborative approach to working with public sector stakeholders.
All our roles require experience of a fast-paced working environment servicing multiple stakeholders, a collaborative mindset, and a continuous improvement mentality. 
The Senior Adviser roles should bring experience of working in place or with places on housing, regeneration, or similar initiatives, using a solution-focused mindset and a supportive, collaborative approach.

<li> Experience of supporting capacity and/or capability development in councils or public sector bodies – embedding learnings, knowledge retention, sharing learnings across partners, and/or similar. Experience of using collaborative approaches to problem solve and to develop best practice.</li>
<li> High level interpersonal skills, with strong influencing and negotiating skills; confident and resilient with good people skills.</li>
<li> High level analytical skills including the ability to interpret evidence and identify trends and solutions. Highly developed written and oral communication skills, including the ability to speak confidently in public and to present complex ideas in a clear and comprehensible way. </li>
<li> A team player, willing to work flexibly to meet changing priorities, and able to deliver under pressure, prioritising work against competing demands to meet deadlines.</li>
