This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting people to achieve meaningful outcomes and live as independently as possible.

About Us

We are looking for an enthusiastic and compassionate Occupational Therapy Assistant to join our friendly and supportive Enablement Team.

Our multidisciplinary team of Occupational Therapists and Community Care Officers works with adults aged 18 and over across Hertfordshire, helping them achieve greater independence and improve their ability to carry out everyday activities. Through personalised, goal-focused interventions, we support people to develop new skills, regain confidence, learn alternative techniques and access appropriate equipment to maximise their independence.

About the Role

As an Occupational Therapy Assistant, you will work closely with qualified Occupational Therapists to deliver enablement interventions that support individuals in achieving their personal goals.

You will provide both joint and independent interventions under the guidance of a qualified Occupational Therapist, supporting people in their own homes and community settings. You will monitor progress, provide feedback to the Occupational Therapist, and identify any concerns or changes in a person's circumstances.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting Occupational Therapists to deliver person-centred enablement interventions.
  • Carrying out therapy programmes and interventions under professional guidance.
  • Assisting with home visits and functional assessments.
  • Providing, monitoring and reviewing equipment to support independence.
  • Recording interventions accurately and maintaining up-to-date case records.
  • Communicating effectively with individuals, families, carers and health and social care professionals.
  • Reporting progress, concerns or changes in need to the supervising Occupational Therapist.
  • Supporting people to build confidence and develop skills in daily living activities.

About You

We are looking for someone who is passionate about improving outcomes for people and helping them achieve greater independence.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Compassion, patience and empathy when working with people facing physical, emotional or cognitive challenges.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Experience of maintaining accurate records and using IT systems confidently.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly and sensitively.
  • A full driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge of health conditions that can affect daily living and independence.
  • Experience of functional assessments and recommending equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt approaches to meet individual needs.
  • Ability to motivate and encourage people to achieve their goals.
  • Active listening skills and a person-centred approach.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in responding to changing needs and priorities.

Why Join Us?
This is a rewarding opportunity to join a dedicated and supportive team committed to helping people regain confidence, maximise independence and achieve what matters most to them.

At Hertfordshire County Council, we are committed to investing in our people and supporting their professional growth, with access to a range of learning, development and progression opportunities to help you build a rewarding career.

If you are passionate about supporting others and want to be part of a team that makes a genuine difference every day, we'd love to hear from you.
