About the role

Do you enjoy being the person who keeps everything running behind the scenes?

We're looking for an organised, proactive and adaptable Senior Business Officer to join our Registration Service. Working across our offices in Cambridge, Huntingdon and Ely, you'll provide the operational support that keeps one of Cambridgeshire's busiest frontline services running smoothly.

From producing certificates and preparing ceremony paperwork to supporting citizenship ceremonies and liaising with the General Register Office, you'll play an essential role in helping colleagues deliver an outstanding service to our customers.

You'll also become part of a team that's proud of the culture we've created. We believe in One Service - working together, supporting one another and always being willing to lend a hand. We know that the best service for our customers starts with looking after each other, sharing knowledge and creating an environment where everyone feels valued, supported and encouraged to develop.

We don't believe in "that's not my job" - we believe in asking "how can I help?"

For more information or to chat about this opportunity please contact the Laura Everitt 01223 706326 or Claire Norman 01223 714663

What will you be doing?

As part of our Registration Service Support Team you'll play a vital role in keeping the service running efficiently by:

  • Producing birth, death and marriage certificates, including urgent same-day requests.
  • Preparing legal paperwork for marriages and civil partnerships across the county.
  • Re-registering marriages on the Registration Online (RON) system.
  • Preparing citizenship ceremony paperwork.
  • Managing ceremony inboxes and responding to customer enquiries.
  • Liaising with the General Register Office and other partner organisations.
  • Supporting colleagues across Cambridge, Huntingdon and Ely.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes and helping us continually improve the way we work.
  • Providing flexible administrative support wherever it's needed.

No two days are ever quite the same, but every day you'll know your work is helping people through some of the most important moments of their lives.

About you

We're looking for someone who enjoys being organised, thrives in a busy environment and genuinely likes helping others.

You'll have:

  • Excellent organisational skills and great attention to detail.
  • Confidence using a variety of IT systems.
  • Outstanding communication and customer service skills.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities whilst maintaining accuracy.
  • A flexible approach and willingness to travel between our offices.
  • The confidence to work independently whilst being a supportive team member.

Most importantly, you'll enjoy being part of a friendly, supportive team where everyone works together to deliver an outstanding service.

About us

Cambridgeshire is a great place to work and live with a diverse population, an urban centre in Cambridge, historic Isle of Ely, Huntingdon and St Ives as well as more rural landscapes.

Our four values are central to our culture, driving everything we do.

We are proud to serve the diverse communities of Cambridgeshire and want our workforce to be reflective of this diversity, which we firmly believe benefits our colleagues, the organisation and our communities. If you don’t meet every single requirement in the job role but think this could be you, please don’t be put off. We are committed to building a workplace that is compassionate and inclusive as well as diverse, so if you think you could be a good candidate for this role please consider applying and speak to the recruiting manager if you have any questions.

Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy, along with our employee network 'IDEAL' and self-organised peer support groups help us to foster an inclusive, supportive and safe working environment where people feel valued, respected, and empowered. We collect relevant diversity data for monitoring as part of the recruitment process to understand the diversity of our applicants and monitor any trends throughout the recruitment processes so that we can take meaningful action.

We are proud to be a Disability Confident Leader. We fully support providing reasonable adjustments throughout our recruitment process, as well as when you join us, and we encourage candidates to contact the Hiring Manager, whose details can be found in the advert, to discuss any adjustment needs. Through a Guaranteed Interview Scheme, we will offer an interview to all applicants who disclose a disability and meet the essential criteria for a job vacancy. On your application form you can indicate you are disabled. Some examples of reasonable adjustments during the recruitment process could include additional time to complete an assessment or printing a document on pastel coloured paper with larger font size and line spacing. We would value talking about what might be possible to enable you to join us and thrive, so if there is something that would help you to do your best during your journey with us, please get in touch.
