Our Housing Options and Solutions team plays a vital frontline role, providing practical support, expert advice and timely interventions to help people remain in their homes or secure alternative accommodation when they need it most.
As a Housing Reviews and Visiting Officer, you’ll be part of a dedicated and compassionate team working directly with residents across the Sevenoaks District. Your work will help prevent homelessness, support some of our most vulnerable residents, and ensure the Council meets its legal duties under housing legislation.
Everything you need to know:
This is a varied and rewarding role that combines casework, investigation, and extensive face-to-face work with customers in their homes and other settings, including hospitals. Based at the Council Offices in Sevenoaks, you’ll travel widely across the district carrying out visits, gathering information, and providing practical housing advice.
What you will be doing:
<ul>
<li>Assisting with homelessness reviews under Section 202 of the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, including carrying out investigations and gathering evidence.</li>
<li>Keeping applicants informed of progress on their homelessness reviews within statutory timescales.</li>
<li>Carrying out accommodation suitability and property condition assessments, considering affordability, overcrowding, location, and any risk of violence.</li>
<li>Visiting customers in a range of settings, including hospitals, to support safe and timely discharge planning.</li>
<li>Providing high-quality housing advice, mediation and realistic housing options to individuals and families at risk of homelessness.</li>
<li>Supporting Housing Advice Officers by verifying applicant details, recording findings from visits, and making clear recommendations.</li>
<li>Maintaining accurate, timely case notes and records on Council databases.</li>
<li>Identifying safeguarding concerns and ensuring vulnerable adults and children are referred to the right services at the right time.</li>
<li>Detecting and reporting suspected fraud and liaising with internal teams such as Benefits, Legal and Fraud.</li>
<li>Working collaboratively with internal services and external partners, including Private Sector Housing and voluntary agencies.</li>
<li>Participating in the duty rota and working occasional evenings or weekends where required.</li>

What you will bring to the role:

The Regulatory Services Partnership (RSP) hosted by Merton Council is one of the largest Environmental Health Services in London, with the Food and Safety Team responsible for overseeing more than 6,000 food businesses in Merton, Richmond and Wandsworth. The area covered is diverse in nature and includes a variety of high profile and interesting venues, such as Wimbledon Tennis, AFC Wimbledon, Twickenham Rugby, Battersea Power Station, New Covent Garden and Hampton Court Flower Show.
We have an exciting opportunity for talented and enthusiastic qualified professionals to join our team of dedicated Food and Health and Safety officers to deliver the food safety, health and safety and infectious disease function across the RSP boroughs.
As an authorised officer you will manage and deliver food hygiene and standards inspections of all premises type, including approved food premises. You will investigate complaints and accidents, using your knowledge, skills and experience, and applying the necessary behaviours.
You will mentor and supervise technical staff, sharing your knowledge and experience.
You should have a real passion for improving the environment and public health by engaging with our communities and businesses. You will be highly motivated, with a flexible approach and an eagerness to develop existing competencies as well as attaining new skills.

About the role:Team Manager opportunity in EMPOWER U team (Exploitation and Missing Hub) City Wide Service ( 12 -18 months fixed term contract for external candidates )An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Team Manager in the continued development of the EMPOWER U Team (Exploitation and Missing Hub) Citywide Service. The successful person will need to be an innovative individual; to work within the EMPOWER U hub in the areas of child exploitation, missing and wider contextual risks such as Serious Youth Violence and Harm outside the family home . The successful applicant will take an independent and objective approach; working in an open and transparent way with the ability to challenge partner agencies and advocate on behalf of children, parents, and carers.In addition, the successful candidate will work in partnership with a team of specialist workers and partners; will chair disruption planning meetings and reviews in relation to children exploited, missing and /or involved in serious youth violence. In addition, they will work in partnership with the district teams, intelligence analysts and assist with any safety planning and decision making in relation to individual and groups of children for whom there are concerns around criminal and /or sexual exploitation and missing. The individual requires a good understanding of contextual safeguarding. Pensions Officer

The Head of Payroll and Pensions forms part of the senior leadership team in the Finance Service, reporting to the Director of Finance (deputy S151).The Payroll service has recently been restructured with the following outcomes achieved&nbsp;<ul> <li>To review staffing levels in the light of the loss of some academies and efficiencies gained through the introduction of Oracle.</li> <li>To introduce a flatter management structure which will facilitate more succession planning and a career path for staff working in the service.</li> <li>For comparability and consistency with the pensions service which has already been through its own restructuring process.</li> <li>To provide an improved service to customers through the introduction of clearer and more consistent job descriptions and person specifications linked to a well-defined learning and development plan for all staff working in the service.</li></ul>There are two roles available, the Head of Payroll and Pensions and the Payroll Manager.What’s the role?The Payroll Manager reports directly into the Head of Payroll and Pensions and is responsible for the running of the payroll service and the management of the team.You will be the Council's expert on payroll, the primary point of contact for complex payroll inquiries, demonstrating a specialist knowledge in a complex area.
