The Performance & Insights role is to question, influence and provide understanding to make life better in Coventry.

The Performance & Insights Team collects, analyses, interprets and publishes a wide range of insights about the city, and engages with residents, communities and partners to champion a culture of evidence-based decision-making across Coventry.

Activities undertaken by the Performance & Insights team include:

  • Business intelligence
  • Customer and location intelligence
  • Engagement and consultation support
  • Evaluative research
  • Performance management
  • Partnership working
  • Providing advice and guidance on equalities and diversity issues and ensuring the Council discharges its Public Sector Equality Duty

What is the job role?

We are looking for a Senior Business Intelligence and Insights Analyst to join the Performance and Insights Team and support Coventry City Council’s journey to become a data‑led organisation. Using evidence and insight, you will help drive decisions and deliver services to our residents in a city proud of its diversity and history of peace and reconciliation.

As a Senior Business Intelligence and Insights Analyst, you will enable the organisation to better understand the local, regional and national landscape through intelligence, data and evidence. Key aspects of the role include:

  • Requirements Gathering & Stakeholder Management – engaging with colleagues and partners to understand needs
  • Collaboration with Technical Teams – working closely to deliver effective solutions
  • Dashboard Development – creating clear, accessible visualisations of data
  • Data Analysis & Insight Generation – turning complex datasets into actionable intelligence

You’ll be joining a busy, innovative and forward‑thinking team where flexibility, passion and curiosity are essential.

Who are we looking for?


The Successful Candidate will have

  • Experience of working at pace to deliver high‑quality assessment and briefing of data to a range of audiences, including senior leaders and elected members
  • Strong understanding of research methodologies and data collection approaches, with the ability to apply the right method in the right context; some experience in survey design and analysis
  • Proven stakeholder engagement skills, maintaining effective working relationships with internal colleagues and external partners
  • Excellent analytical ability, able to deliver insights quickly in a fast‑moving policy environment while managing deadlines and expectations
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, tailoring complex data and evidence for different audiences
  • Knowledge of coding languages to enable rapid and reproducible analysis (preferably R or Python)
  • Awareness of professional standards, including the Statistical Code of Practice and/or the Government Social Research framework

Desirable technical skills include:

  • Knowledge and application of Power BI, Python, R, SQL, and statistical analysis
  • Advanced use of Power BI and MS Excel, alongside experience with SQL, Python, R, and statistical analysis
