We're looking for a motivated, practical, and enthusiastic Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor to join our 0-25 Disability Team.

This is an exciting opportunity to support children and young people with disabilities, and their families, by helping to promote independence, safety, choice, and well-being within the home and wider community. Working as part of the 0-25 Disability Team, you will provide practical occupational therapy support under the direction of the Occupational Therapist, contributing to assessments, reviews, equipment provision, minor adaptations, and intervention programmes that make a meaningful difference to daily life.

If you have experience of working with children, young people, or adults with disabilities, have a practical and solution-focused approach, and are confident supporting people to achieve positive outcomes, we would like to hear from you.

About the role

We are a dedicated team supporting children and young people aged 0-25 with disabilities. The Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor role will strengthen our occupational therapy offer by providing timely, practical support to children, young people, families, and carers. You will assist with gathering information, completing delegated assessments, fitting and reviewing equipment, supporting recommendations for minor adaptations, and delivering intervention plans that help promote independence, safe care, and participation in everyday activities.

As part of our supportive team, you will work closely with the Occupational Therapist, social workers, support workers, families, carers, schools, health colleagues, and partner agencies. Your work will include supporting children and young people with daily living skills, safe manual handling, specialist equipment, home safety, access needs, and independence within the home and community. You will be expected to work in a person-centred and outcome-focused way, ensuring that the child or young person’s voice, family circumstances, strengths, and priorities are central to the support provided.

Why Us?

Practical, Outcome-Focused Support: You will help children and young people develop independence and participate more safely in daily routines through delegated occupational therapy interventions, equipment, advice, and practical support.

Promoting Independence and Safety: You will contribute to assessments and reviews that consider daily living skills, moving and handling needs, home environments, specialist equipment, minor adaptations, and strategies that support children, young people, and families to manage safely.

Supporting Transition: You will support young people as they move toward adulthood by helping them build practical skills, confidence, and independence, working alongside families and professionals to promote positive transition planning.

Collaborative Working: You will be part of a multi-disciplinary environment where occupational therapy, social work, education, health, and community partners work together to achieve the best outcomes for children, young people, and their families.

Learning and Development: We will support you to develop your knowledge and skills in areas relevant to the role, including disability, equipment, adaptations, moving and handling, communication needs, and person-centred practice.

At Blaenau Gwent, you can expect a warm and inclusive environment, where your growth and development are paramount. Our passionate and innovative team brings a wealth of experience to the table, providing unparalleled support and encouragement. Our promise to you is an inclusive and supportive work environment, where you can unleash your full potential and be your authentic self. We offer a range of benefits made for you, including:

  • Performance evaluations and feedback sessions with your supervisor to aid you in adapting to your new role
  • Flexible working arrangements to ensure employees benefit from having a work/life balance
  • Receive ongoing training and professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge for personal growth and career advancement
  • Work in a collaborative and inclusive environment that values your contributions
  • An excellent local government pension scheme and generous annual leave

Join Us in Promoting Independence and Positive Outcomes

By joining our team as an Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor, you will play an important role in supporting children and young people with disabilities to live as safely, independently, and confidently as possible. If you are practical, compassionate, organised, and committed to improving everyday outcomes for children, young people, and families, we invite you to apply.
