About the Role

As our Ecologist, you’ll play a key role in delivering nature recovery across a diverse and vibrant borough, You’ll be:
<ul>
<li>Providing expert ecological advice throughout the planning process – from pre-application to condition discharge and monitoring biodiversity net gain.</li>
<li>Ensuring the Council meets its duties under the Environment Act 2021.</li>
<li>Collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders – planners, developers, agents, consultants, environmental groups, and councillors.</li>
<li>Supporting the development of our Biodiversity Strategy and Supplementary Planning Document.</li>

About You
We’re seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Ecologist who has:
<ul>
<li>A degree or diploma in a relevant ecological or environmental discipline.</li>
<li>Significant experience in ecology, ideally within the planning system.</li>
<li>A practical understanding of ecological protection and enhancement.</li>
<li>A full UK driving licence; you will be traveling throughout the Borough and may be using your own transport.</li>

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Mechanic to join our Fleet Services team at the Merlin Way depot in Ilkeston. You will play a key role in maintaining and repairing our municipal fleet - from refuse collection vehicles to road sweepers - ensuring essential services are delivered safely and reliably across the borough.
What You’ll Be Doing
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
<ul>
<li>Preparing vehicles for MOT, servicing, and repairs across our HGV vehicles such as refuse collection vehicles, road sweepers and light to medium sized commercial vehicles</li>
<li>Diagnosing faults and carrying out timely workshop repairs</li>
<li>Attending breakdowns and resolving issues roadside when possible</li>
<li>Undertaking repairs, maintenance and servicing to agricultural vehicles, plant and equipment including mowers - training can be provided</li>
<li>Participating in an out-of-hours standby service on a rota basis when the fleet is operational outside normal working hours and at weekends - an additional stand-by allowance is payable when on-call</li>
</ul>
A clean driving licence with HGV Category C is desirable for road testing, but we will support you in gaining this licence if needed.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who:
<ul>
<li>Has a clean driving licence (category B minimum, we will provide training for category C licence)</li>
<li>Has hands-on experience with maintenance and repair of petrol and diesel engine vehicles and working with HGV municipal vehicles such as refuse collection vehicles and road sweepers&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</li>
<li>Works well independently and as part of a team</li>
<li>Brings a positive, can-do attitude to every challenge</li>
<li>Is flexible, reliable, and committed to high standards</li>
<li>Has achieved a City and Guilds NVQ Level 3 (Light/Heavy Vehicle Maintenance) or has demonstrable equivalent work experience in a similar role</li>
