An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Portsmouth City Councils Housing Renewals service, which forms part of the Private Sector Housing Team. You will work proactively within the Housing Renewals team’s Home Improvement Agency service to support applicants through the adaptation process. Your role will include: •	Reviewing Occupational Therapist referrals and recommendations for adaptations, typically the removal of a bath and replacement with a level access shower. •	Visiting applicants’ in their home to assist with completing grant application forms to fund the required adaptations, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail. •	Communicating with the grant applicant and the Occupational Therapist (OT) about the process and the required adaptations •	Carrying out basic visual surveys—typically of bathrooms—and recording relevant notes based on the recommendations of the Occupational Therapist. •	Using these notes to prepare a simple plan and specification for the required adaptations using standard templates. •	Contact contractors to obtain quotes for the work. •	Track the progress of the works, communicating with the contractor and the grant applicant where necessary, and check that the adaptations are completed in-line with the specification. •	Complete forms to confirm the adaptations are finalised and meet the specification, and to arrange for the payment of the grant to be processed by others. The Housing Officer role is a fully generic role delivering a comprehensive housing management service to a cohort of Portsmouth Homes tenants. The role is predominantly reactive, to help support and empower tenants to be able to sustain and maintain their tenancies and live their best lives, whilst feeling safe and secure in their homes and communities. We provide advice, information and assistance on all housing issues within the Borough. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic housing professional to become part of the team.
You will provide housing-related support to clients who are at risk of homelessness and who are considered to require such support to manage their tenancy and maintain their ability to live independently in the community, including initial resettlement for people taking up new tenancies. You will have housing-related experience and some knowledge of homelessness legislation. An ability to interpret and communicate complex information is essential as is being an adaptable, sympathetic and organised individual. You will also have an understanding of the needs of clients with mental health problems, complex needs, learning disabilities, substance misuse and/or vulnerable people.

Working in partnership with other organisations we ensure that vulnerable people and families are provided with appropriate advice, accommodation and supportIn this role, you will be responsible for carrying out assessments with individuals and families who are either already homeless or who are threatened with homelessness for a variety of reasons including domestic abuse, financial struggles or those who have been served a notice requiring them to leave their private rented property. All decisions are made in accordance with the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017. You will need to be able to problem solve and seek out innovative homeless prevention solutions according to each household’s unique circumstances.You will also be expected to work in partnership with key frontline partner services such as rough sleeper outreach, Registered Providers, Adults and Children’s social care teams, hospital services and other community based statutory and voluntary agencies as part of a multi-agency solutions focussed homelessness prevention serviceKey Responsibilities:<ul><li>Hold and prioritise your own caseload of homeless households</li><li>Have an in-depth understanding of the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and related legislation</li><li>Develop a Personal Housing Plan according to the household’s circumstances</li><li>Carry out homelessness investigations and make formal decisions within legislative frameworks</li><li>Liaise and negotiate with landlords and excluders</li><li>Have a sound understanding of the possession proceedings process</li><li>Provide in depth advice regarding housing options</li><li>Represent the client at multi agency meetings including safeguarding</li><li>Recognise safeguarding concerns and make relevant referrals</li><li>Make referrals for emergency and temporary accommodation</li><li>Write legally sound homeless decision letters</li><li>Make referrals to other agencies to support clients and to prevent or relieve their homelessness</li></ul>Work StyleAt North Somerset Council, we offer a hybrid working environment based on four distinct work styles.
