WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our high-performing Revenues team. You will deal with the administration, collection and enforcement of Council Tax, Non-Domestic Rates and Business Improvement levy. The team operates in a thriving customer-facing environment in which you will amend accounts, interpret regulations and procedures and deal with enquiries via correspondence, email, telephone, and face to face, ensuring all taxes are collected promptly.

You will build on our good reputation, contribute to our evolving service-improvement, and always put our customers first. You will also be IT literate and have excellent communication and numerical skills, supported by an organised approach and the ability to meet performance targets. A background in Council Tax or Non-Domestic Rates is desirable but not essential.

You will be self-motivated, enthusiastic, customer focused and a team player. You will also acquire and maintain a thorough knowledge of all the relevant legislation in order to ensure that records are updated correctly, and advice is provided accurately.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER:

The Council’s offices are in the heart of the Cathedral City of Winchester, the ancient capital of England and the county town of Hampshire. The city itself is a major tourist destination attracting 5 million visitors a year, hosting many events including the Hat Fair, Boomtown Music Festival, Cycle Fest and the hugely popular Christmas Market.

Winchester City Council serves a large district which spans 250 square miles of central Hampshire with a population of 122,000 residents. There are bustling market towns, each with their own distinct characters, and Whitely with its state-of-the-art shopping and leisure facilities. We are also the official gateway to the South Downs National Park with its quiet hamlets and beautiful countryside.

We offer an excellent salary on qualification of this post which currently starts at £32,597, up to £36,363, together with a benefits package, including:

  • 26 days annual leave, rising to 33 days – dependant on length of service, plus an additional 1.5 days to take at Christmas
  • Hybrid-working (50% in the office, 50% at home – after first 3 weeks in office)
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme
