    Are you passionate about improving local neighbourhoods, tackling environmental noise nuisance and anti-social behaviour, and ensuring residents can enjoy clean, safe environments? If so, we have an exciting opportunity to join our Environmental Enforcement Team. As an Environmental Case Officer, you will play a key role in protecting and enhancing our communities by investigating complaints, enforcing legislation, gathering evidence, and working closely with residents, businesses, partner organisations and enforcement agencies.

    Working Pattern (27 hours per week)

    • Alternate weekends: Saturday and Sunday, 9am–6pm, plus one flexible weekday
    • Non-weekend weeks: Three flexible days between Monday and Friday

    Key Responsibilities

    • Investigating complaints relating to environmental issues, anti-social behaviour, noise nuisance and nuisance vehicles
    • Enforcing environmental legislation using a range of interventions, from advice and warnings through to prosecution
    • Managing cases involving abandoned and untaxed vehicles, working with the DVLA and partner agencies
    • Coordinating responses to unauthorised encampments on Council owned land
    • Providing advice and guidance to residents, businesses, councillors and partner organisations
    • Supporting out-of-hours enforcement activities, including noise monitoring
    • Working closely with agencies such as the Police, Fire Service, housing providers and other local authorities
    • Maintaining accurate case records and contributing to service improvements and best practice development

    About You

    We're looking for a customer-focused individual who can investigate complex issues and communicate effectively with a wide range of people. Strong communication, problem-solving and workload management skills are essential.

    Training and Development

    At the heart of this role is a commitment to protecting communities and improving the local environment.We understand that candidates may come from a range of professional backgrounds, which is why we provide comprehensive in-house training and ongoing support to help you succeed.

    You will work alongside experienced colleagues who will support your development and help you build expertise across a broad range of environmental enforcement activities.

    Whilst experience in enforcement or regulatory services would be advantageous, we welcome applications from individuals with transferable skills in investigation, compliance, customer service, community safety, housing, policing, military service, licensing, regulatory services or case management. Full training will be provided for the right candidate.

    No formal qualifications are required for this position, however a full UK driving licence and the ability to travel across the city using Council fleet vehicles is essential
