Independent Advisor for the Housing Management Cabinet Sub‑Committee

London Borough of Tower Hamlets

The London Borough of Tower Hamlets is seeking up to three Independent Advisors to sit on its Housing Management Cabinet Sub-committee. This is a pivotal role, helping the Council to shape the future of its housing management services through the Your Voice, Our Action: Safe Homes, Great Services programme, including the investment of £609m over the next decade to deliver improvements to our stock of 21,500 homes.

As an Independent Advisor, you will provide independent expertise, insight and challenge to ensure our services are resident-centred, high-performing and compliant with regulatory standards.

You will work closely with the Mayor, Members, senior officers and other stakeholders, contributing to effective decision making through the Sub-Committee. This includes scrutinising performance and risk, evaluating policy and strategy proposals, and offering specialist advice regarding industry practice.

We are looking for candidates with significant knowledge of the social housing sector, and expertise in the fields of Housing Management, Asset Management, Resident Engagement or Social Housing Finance. You will bring a dedication to representing the interests of and improving outcomes for Tower Hamlets’ tenant and leaseholder communities.

Experience of living and working in the borough is highly desirable, as is lived experience of social housing. Current Tower Hamlets residents are strongly encouraged to apply.

As an independent advisor you will be required to attend at least 80% of meetings held in the year. There will be a minimum of 6 formal meetings of the Sub-committee, plus additional training and events to attend. Attendance to Housing Management Sub-committee meetings will be required in-person at Tower Hamlets Town Hall. You will ensure that you are fully prepared for meetings, contribute proactively and maintain the highest standards of conduct and probity.

Renumeration for this role will be £6,000 per annum, inclusive of expenses. Appointment to the position will be for a term of 12 months, with extension subject to an annual appraisal.

Please note that existing Tower Hamlets Council officers and staff member of partner organisations or contractors of the Council will not be eligible for this position.
