About the role

Do you have a knack for helping people, and a desire to work at the heart of the local community?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and versatile person to join our friendly team based in Huntingdon Library. The team also support libraries in Yaxley and Sawtry.

This role is a part-time job share and involves working in close partnership with an existing postholder. Successful job share arrangements rely on excellent communication, mutual trust and a collaborative approach to ensure continuity of service, consistent decision-making and effective support for staff, volunteers and customers across the libraries.

The postholder will assist the Area Library Manager in the day-to-day running of the three libraries.

The successful candidate will also need to work flexibly, with a requirement for some weekend and evening working as well as lone working on occasion.

Although this post is primarily based at Huntingdon Library, candidates must be able to travel between locations as required.

Please see timetable attached for working pattern.

Interviews will be held on Tuesday 4th August at Huntingdon Library.

Applications must be made online via this system, CVs or other attachments are not accepted.

For more information or to chat about this opportunity please contact Jessica Jones, Area Library Manager via email jessica.jones@cambridgeshire.gov.uk or 0345 045 5225.

What will you be doing?

You will be enthusiastic about what public libraries can offer, and able to promote and deliver our services and advocate for them within the local community.

Although there is plenty of routine work, there is also scope to be innovative. Training will be given on specific library systems, but an ability to work with IT is essential.

Day to day tasks would include, working on the front desk in the library space, dealing with property issues, cash handling, planning events and answering customer queries.

You will also be organising regular activities and events, and working closely with schools and other local groups.

There will be some line management responsibility for staff and volunteers.

About you

The successful candidate will have a flair for working with people and be able to create a friendly and welcoming environment for a diverse range of customers. They will be excellent at multi-tasking, resourceful and willing to support the team as needed.

Experience of working in a customer service environment is essential, but we welcome applications from all walks of life, who could bring new perspectives to this exciting opportunity.

We want to recognise and celebrate the diversity of our local communities and be responsive to their needs. We also want to ensure that we are a fair and equitable employer, striving to achieve a diverse and culturally competent workforce. We therefore encourage applications from all areas of our community.

Please refer to the job description and person specification for full details about this job role.

Please note: The supporting statement is the most important part of your application. This will be used in the shortlisting process to assess whether you meet the essential requirements for the role.

When completing the support statement for this position, please tell us how your skills, experience, capability and potential match each of the criteria in the person specification.

As this is a job share role, you will be able to build strong working relationships, communicate clearly and maintain effective handovers. You will understand the importance of collaborative decision-making, shared accountability and ensuring continuity for customers, staff and volunteers.
