About the Role

This is a hands-on, people-facing role that offers variety, challenge and genuine job satisfaction. It is not an office‑based or administrative post. The role is centred on supporting young people directly in real workplace settings, helping them to build skills, confidence and independence on their journey into paid employment.

Oxfordshire Employment , is seeking to recruit an Employment Support Worker to work primarily on our Supported Internship Programme. You may also be required to support other employment programmes delivered by the service, depending on service need.

Oxfordshire Supported Internships are delivered in partnership with local colleges, employers and service providers. The programme supports young adults to achieve their employment goals through a combination of college learning and substantial, real‑world work placements.

In this role, you will spend the majority of your time out in the community and in workplaces, working directly with young people in their placements. You will collaborate closely with colleagues, employers and other stakeholders to ensure each young person is well supported to develop their skills, strengths and confidence at work, with the aim of progressing into paid employment where appropriate.

Employment Support Workers actively:

  • Identify and develop work placement opportunities with local employers
  • Provide in‑work coaching and practical, on‑the‑job support by working alongside young people in their placements
  • Help young people learn job tasks, workplace routines and professional behaviours in real employment environments

Key responsibilities include:

  • able to work Monday to Friday
  • Supporting several young people in work placements across Oxfordshire, under the guidance of an Employment Advisor
  • Providing practical advice to employers on reasonable adjustments, with support from the Employment Advisor
  • Taking a strengths‑based approach to help individuals develop their skills, confidence and independence at work
  • Building positive working relationships with employers, colleagues and partner organisations
  • Completing essential reviews and associated paperwork to support delivery of the programme (this forms a small but necessary part of the role)

Travel across Oxfordshire is required. A full driving licence and access to a vehicle would be an advantage.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience of, or a strong understanding of, supporting people with disabilities within a workplace or employment‑focused setting
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues, college teams, employers, and the individuals being supported on our programmes
  • Strong organisational skills, enabling you to manage your time effectively while supporting people across multiple locations throughout Oxfordshire

You will also need the ability to:

  • Provide practical advice, guidance and solutions to support the learning and development of young people and adults within real work environments, while maintaining a professional and supportive approach at all times
  • Work well under pressure, using your initiative to prioritise tasks and manage workloads effectively
  • Take a flexible, dynamic approach with a positive “can‑do” attitude, adapting your support to different learning styles and workplace situations
  • Communicate with understanding, patience and professionalism when working with individuals and others who have a strong interest in a young person’s future, such as families, employers and professionals
