Job Introduction

We’re recruiting two Social Workers (Level 3) to join our Children’s Services at Milton Keynes City Council.

Both are Full time - 1x Permanent and 1x Fixed Term (12 months)

This is a rewarding role where you’ll work directly with children, young people and families, ensuring their needs are understood, supported and safeguarded. The Fostering Team works across Children’s Services to fulfil Milton Keynes City Council’s statutory requirements under the Children Act 1989, Fostering Regulations 2011 and National Minimum Standards 2011.

The team recruits foster carers to provide good quality foster placements so the children of Milton Keynes have the opportunity to thrive and remain close to their local networks.
The team works closely with colleagues in the Corporate Parenting service.

The work of the team includes the recruitment, training and support of mainstream foster carers, the assessment and support of kinship carers, private fostering and special guardianship.

You’ll hold a full and varied caseload, including complex cases, and take professional responsibility for delivering high-quality social work that improves outcomes for children.

At Milton Keynes City Council, we are dedicated, respectful and collaborative. We’re focused on improving lives, reducing inequalities and supporting our communities to thrive.

At the start of the application you will be prompted to input whether you wish to be considered for the Permanent or Fixed Term position.

Site-Based role

This is a Site-Based role, and you’ll be expected to work from the designated workplace.

Interviews for this role will be held on 28th July 2026

At Milton Keynes City Council, we aim to make a difference every day. We’re dedicated, respectful and collaborative. We act as one council, and we work hard to create cleaner, safer and healthier communities while tackling inequalities and supporting people to thrive.

Role Responsibilities
  • A qualified social worker with a recognised social work qualification such as DipSW, CQSW or a Degree in Social Work, and registered with Social Work England.
  • Someone who keeps up to date with legislation, policy and professional practice and uses reflection to continuously improve their work.
  • A clear and confident communicator who can write concisely and present information in a way that is easy for others to understand.
  • A practitioner who can build relationships with children, families and colleagues while challenging where appropriate and finding solutions.
  • A resilient and adaptable individual who can manage changing situations and respond effectively under pressure.
  • Someone who can analyse complex information and make sound decisions, even in high-risk situations.
  • A professional who can manage their workload effectively and deliver outcomes within required timescales.
Ideal Candidate
  • You might already be an experienced social worker looking for your next step where you can take on a full and complex caseload.
  • Perhaps you’re ready to use your expertise to make a lasting impact on children’s lives while continuing to grow professionally.
  • You could be someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is confident in making decisions that protect and support vulnerable children.
  • You may bring strong relationship-building skills, enabling you to work effectively with families, carers and partner agencies.
  • You might be motivated by meaningful work where every day brings new challenges and opportunities to improve outcomes.
  • You could be looking for a role where your judgement, resilience and professionalism are valued and supported.

Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle

To be successful in this role, you’ll need a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle. If we offer you the role, we’ll ask you to provide evidence of your driving licence and vehicle insurance, including cover for business use. We’re unable to confirm an appointment until these documents are received.

As part of the pre-employment checks, should you be offered the role, we’ll carry out an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, (unless you are currently registered with the DBS Update Service).
