About the role

Our Creative Learning & Wellbeing team at Cambridgeshire Music is seeking a dedicated Piano Tutor to support delivery within education and community settings.

This post is offered initially at 0.8 FTE, with potential for the role to develop further and expand over time.

The successful candidate will deliver high-quality piano tuition, supporting musical development, engagement, and confidence among children and young people. You will play a key role in delivering a varied and inclusive programme of creative learning, working with pupils of different ages, abilities, and backgrounds.

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Jason Howard via jason.howard@cambridgeshire.gov.uk.

What will you be doing?

As well as delivering high-quality instrumental and vocal tuition within educational settings, the role will include contributing to a wider programme of activity across the service. This will involve supporting our evening and weekend ensemble provision from time to time, working with groups of varying ages and abilities to develop performance skills and ensemble playing. You may also be involved in delivering workshops and courses during school holidays, as well as participating in projects and events that take place outside of traditional school settings. These activities are an important part of our offer, helping to broaden access, encourage progression, and engage children and young people in music-making beyond the classroom. The role offers variety and the opportunity to work across different contexts, supporting both individual musical development and collaborative experiences.

Further details can be found in the job description and person specification.

About you

You will have relevant qualifications, training, or demonstrable experience in your chosen instrument or vocal specialism, with the ability to teach across a range of genres and styles. You will be confident delivering engaging and inclusive sessions that meet the needs of children and young people with varying levels of ability and experience. You will have strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to build positive relationships with pupils, school staff, and colleagues, and to inspire enthusiasm for music-making. A flexible and adaptable approach is essential, as you will be working across a variety of educational and community settings. You should be well organised, reliable, and committed to maintaining high standards of teaching and professional practice. As the role involves delivery in multiple locations, you will be able to travel independently across the county of Cambridgeshire.

On your application form you can indicate you are disabled. Some examples of reasonable adjustments during the recruitment process could include additional time to complete an assessment or printing a document on pastel coloured paper with larger font size and line spacing. We would value talking about what might be possible to enable you to join us and thrive, so if there is something that would help you to do your best during your journey with us, please get in touch.
