Shared Lives Carer – Join Tower Hamlets Shared Lives

Tower Hamlets Shared Lives (THSL) is seeking caring individuals from all parts of our community to become paid Shared Lives Carers and make a meaningful difference to the lives of vulnerable adults in Tower Hamlets.

THSL provides a community‑based alternative to traditional care for adults with a learning disability. Through Shared Lives, a person lives, stays, or spends time with a Carer, using the Carer’s home as a safe and supportive base.

Our aim is simple: to help each person maintain their independence, build confidence, and live a full and connected life.

Types of Shared Lives Support

We are currently recruiting Shared Lives Carers for the following roles:

1. Long Term Placement

Someone lives with you as part of your family or personal network.

•Weekly income: £600–£800 per person (includes care fees, rent, and utilities)

2. Respite Support

Someone stays with you overnight or for short periods.

•Payment: £82–£106 per night per person.

3. Day Support

Spend a day or a few hours each week supporting someone in the community.

•Payment: Earn up to £93.80 for providing 6 hours of support per person.

•You must live in or near Tower Hamlets to provide day support.

Shared Lives Carers can support up to three people at a time.

What You’ll Need

•At least one spare bedroom for long term or respite support (Day support does not require a spare room).

•To be 21 or older.

•To be a full time UK resident or have leave to remain.

oPlease note: we cannot provide visa sponsorship.

If offering long term or respite support, you may live outside Tower Hamlets.

What Shared Lives Carers Do

Shared Lives Carers support people with a wide range of day to day tasks and goals, including:

•Cooking, shopping, budgeting, and other practical tasks.

•Personal care (washing, dressing, taking medication) – this is not a requirement to become a Carer.

•Building friendships and staying connected to family.

•Accessing community activities, education, training, employment, or volunteering.

Why Become a Shared Lives Carer?

Being a Shared Lives Carer is rewarding, flexible, and meaningful.

It can be your full-time role or something you do alongside existing work or caring responsibilities.

We provide:

•Full training

•Ongoing support

•Regular contact with the Shared Lives team

•A highly rewarding opportunity to make a lasting difference
