Join our Parking Service and play a vital role in ensuring parking regulations are enforced fairly and efficiently across the city. You will manage permits, appeals and Penalty Charge Notices while providing information and advice on parking matters.

Your new role

As a Parking Charge Officer, you will play a key role in delivering an efficient and customer-focused service, processing Penalty Charge Notices, permits, season tickets and parking dispensations. You will ensure cases are processed accurately, in line with legislation and council procedures, while maintaining detailed records and supporting the effective administration of the service.

You will also provide advice and support to customers, consider appeals and representations and prepare cases for adjudication where required,

Who is the person summary:

You will be a detail-oriented and customer-focused administrator with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Confident dealing with customers by phone, email and face-to-face, you will be able to handle sensitive or challenging situations professionally while maintaining a high standard of customer service.

You will have strong organisational skills, an eye for detail, and the ability to work accurately under pressure to meet deadlines. A team player with good IT skills and experience in a similar administrative environment, you will be committed to delivering an efficient and effective service.

Local Government Reorganisation (LGR)

As part of Local Government Reorganisation, current plans will see Portsmouth City Council combine with the district and borough councils of Fareham, Gosport and Havant and parts of East Hampshire and Winchester district councils to form a new, larger unitary authority for south east Hampshire.

We are working towards an implementation date of 1st April 2028, known as vesting day, subject to Parliamentary approval. Until then, we remain focused on maintaining continuity, supporting our workforce, and continuing to deliver excellent services to our residents throughout the transition to the new unitary authority.

Please ensure that you read the job profile for full details on the post. We offer hybrid working, after the induction period, with the expectation to attend the office minimum 3 days a week (pro rata for part time), this remains flexible, depending on the role and subject to business needs.
