Sessional Opportunities: (Maths/English/Pastoral) Assistant Tutors, Tutors & Senior Tutors

Contract Type: Sessional
Hours: Flexible / By Agreement
Pay: £13.26 – £16.35 per hour (depending on role) + 14.49% sessional uplift
Location: County-wide (bases in Redditch and Worcester)

Are you passionate about teaching maths or English and helping young people achieve recognised qualifications?

Do you enjoy supporting learners to build confidence, develop skills, and make meaningful progress toward their employment and career goals?

If so, we’d love you to join our committed and friendly team.

Learning Services Worcestershire is expanding its Young Adult Learning provision in Worcester and Redditch and is recruiting enthusiastic sessional staff to deliver maths, English and pastoral support.

We welcome applications from individuals who can deliver in one or more of these areas. You do not need experience in all three disciplines to apply.

English and maths (GCSE and Functional Skills, Entry Level to Level 2) are a core component of our employment-focused Study Programmes for learners aged 16–24, supporting them to achieve the qualifications they need to progress. Alongside this, our Employability and Engagement Programmes (EEP) provide tailored support to help learners build confidence, develop essential life and work skills, and prepare for their next steps into education, training or employment.

Many of our learners have experienced disrupted education and have a range of support and learning needs, including social, emotional and mental health challenges. Through small class sizes, a flexible approach and strong pastoral support, we provide high-quality teaching that helps learners build confidence, thrive and succeed.

About the Roles

We are recruiting to our standard career-graded tutor pathway:

Assistant Tutors – £13.26 per hour
Support learning, build confidence, and help learners engage with maths or English. Ideal for those starting a teaching career or with experience supporting young people.

Tutors – £14.82 per hour
Plan and deliver high-quality maths or English sessions, supporting learners to achieve Functional Skills and/or GCSE qualifications.

Senior Tutors – £16.35 per hour
Alongside teaching, support curriculum planning, contribute to quality improvement, and mentor colleagues.

While these roles sit within a wider generic tutor structure, you will primarily deliver maths or English within your specialist area. Full role expectations are outlined in the job description.

What You’ll Be Doing

Depending on the role, you will:

  • Plan and deliver engaging EEP, maths or English sessions (GCSE and/or Functional Skills)
  • Support learners to build confidence and make progress toward qualifications
  • Adapt teaching to meet a range of individual needs
  • Work with colleagues and support staff to ensure learners are well supported
  • Maintain learner records and provide feedback on progress
  • Embed safeguarding, equality and inclusion within your teaching
  • (Tutors/Senior Tutors) contribute to shared resources and development of delivery

About You

We’re looking for people who are:

  • Passionate about teaching maths or English in an inclusive setting
  • Skilled at building positive relationships with young people
  • Patient, adaptable, and motivated by learner progress
  • Experienced in supporting or delivering post-16 learning

And who have:

  • Assistant Tutors: experience in supporting learning
  • Tutors/Senior Tutors: experience in delivering EEP, maths/English (Functional Skills and/or GCSE) or similar

Why Join Us?

  • Make a genuine difference to young people’s futures
  • Work in a supportive and collaborative team
  • Flexible hours to suit your availability
  • Opportunities to progress into contracted roles
  • Access to CPD, mentoring, and career development

We are committed to supporting our staff as much as our learners—you’ll be valued, encouraged, and developed.
