An exciting opportunity has arisen within Guildford Borough Council’s Design and Conservation Team in the role of Senior Urban Design Officer to provide proactive specialist urban design advice and to play a key role in shaping future built development within the Borough.
GBC have adopted two Local Plans over the last 5 years and are just about to embark on a Local Plan update in line with the government’s new plan making process. The existing Local Plan includes a number of very large residential led sites that are still to secure planning permission. Work is also starting on a capacity study in and around the Town Centre that will inform site allocations including guidance on the height and density of development and design coding. To enable the delivery of these ambitions, a highly experienced and qualified Urban Designer is being sought to lead and champion high quality contextual urban design and help shape sustainable development and growth in the Borough.
Working within the Council’s Economy, Planning and Place Service, the role will involve a stimulating balance of casework and strategic policy guidance, and will include:

<li>Leading in placemaking and urban design across the borough, including newly planned neighbourhoods, housing projects, regeneration areas and town centre projects.</li>
<li>Providing proactive design advice on major PPAs and planning applications, as well as working with developers and their representatives on all matters relating to urban design and the built form.</li>
<li>Providing advice on proposals with significant impacts on the public realm and on environmental improvement schemes.</li>
<li>Evaluating existing guidance and producing up to date guidance and policies.</li>
<li>Contributing to ongoing policy work.</li>
</ul>
Applicants should have a recognised degree/post graduate qualification in urban design, planning or architecture as well as proven professional experience within the urban design field role. Excellent verbal, written and illustrative communication, effective time management and a sound knowledge and proactive use of national design policy, guidance and legislation are all essential. You will also have an ability to build a rapport and working relationship with stakeholders, elected members, consultees, colleagues and local communities. The successful candidate will also need to hold a full driving licence and have access to a car.&nbsp;Membership of a recognised professional body (RIBA, RTPI, RICS) would also be desirable, as would experience of working within a local planning authority or similar agency.
The offices are located by the river Wey, close to Guildford Town Centre, and a short walk from the station. The post also benefits from on-site parking as an essential car user.&nbsp;

Community Cohesion and Integration Officer

We are looking for someone to join our Place Protection team, working with a variety of council service areas, to help improve the feelings of safety within our community and to ensure compliance is monitored and maintained.&nbsp;This involves engagement with members of the public, partners, and other services, as part of a high profiled uniformed patrol.The role will contribute towards tackling antisocial behaviour, investigate and resolve enviro-crimes (fly-tipping, graffiti, un-taxed or abandon vehicles etc), homelessness related issues and parking contraventions within council owned car parks.&nbsp;Early intervention and engagement are required in certain situations, in addition to the use of delegated powers.&nbsp;The officers will need to adhere to local policies and legal guidance, to gather, handle and prepare evidence for certain offences, by obtaining photographs, compiling witness statements, conducting interviews, including interviews under caution. The post holder will use their experience of similar work to deliver the Mayor’s ambition to make London a net-zero carbon city by 2030. To do this they will work with a wide array of stakeholders such as GLA Group organisations (Transport for London, Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime, London Fire Brigade, London Legacy Development Corporation, The Metropolitan Police Service and Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation), central government, London Treasury, Community Energy Groups, London Boroughs, schools, and other delivery partners. They will ensure integration between the&nbsp;GLA Group Clean Power Commercial&nbsp;Programme and other related programmes and strategies accelerates the purchasing of clean power, solar panel installations on buildings, heat pumps roll out and buildings retrofit among public sector organisations across London.
The post holder will be part of a small team and will focus on the GLA Group Clean Power Programme, leading on programme delivery, management, and stakeholder engagement. We expect the post holder to be able to work flexibly across these different policy areas in response to priorities and needs.

About The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join Homelessness, Independence and Preventative Services, Temporary Accommodation, Bookings &amp; Cancellations Service, which adopts a preventative approach across the housing, health and social care agendas.&nbsp; Your primary focus will be to operationally lead the Council’s placements into all forms of temporary accommodation and effective move-on into different housing pathways. You must be professional, energetic and enthusiastic as we are interested in what you can bring to help us improve and develop our services to support some of our most vulnerable residents.&nbsp;
You will be required to manage a team of three Bookings &amp; Cancellations Officers. You must be able to learn and develop your knowledge required for this role and be able to travel independently around the Borough.&nbsp;
About The Team You’ll Be Working In
This is an exciting and busy role that is at the centre of the Councils response to homelessness. The service is developing and progressing our agenda to reduce the use of temporary accommodation and achieve more upstream prevention outcomes.
1. You will manage the effective allocation of all types of temporary accommodation including daily emergencies, cancellations and transfers; and to ensure that the placement of suitable accommodation is sufficient to meet with clients' individual needs and service demands. the Bookings &amp; Cancellations Officer are motivational to ensure a high-quality service is delivered.&nbsp;
2. You are an expert negotiator with a wide range of professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes can be achieved while recognising conflicting priorities.&nbsp; You organise your team to be highly efficient and effective in their roles, balancing the need to work independently but collaboratively to meet contextual needs.&nbsp; You are proactive in reviewing and evaluating your own performance and acting on your own initiative to improve and develop.&nbsp;
3. Manage workloads within and across teams to flex resources where needed to ensure workloads are balanced to prevent backlogs arising, i.e. backlog of housing benefit claims, setting up rent accounts, updating accommodation fields on housing databases for accurate recording of TA numbers, placements and move-on.&nbsp;&nbsp;
4. You will manage allocated staff and resources using core processes and procedures consistently across the assigned operational activities in an efficient manner that is in compliance with all relevant policies and guidelines.
