This permanent, full-time position has a starting salary of £34,660 per annum based on a 36 hour working week.

We are excited to be hiring two new Family Support Workers to join our fantastic Children with Disabilities Service based in Woking. This role is open to hybrid working and as a team we split our time between working out in the community, from home and collaborating together in the office two days per week.

Our Offer to You

  • 26 days’ holiday, rising to 28 days after 2 years' service and 31 days after 5 years’ service
  • Option to buy up to 10 days of additional annual leave
  • A generous local government salary related pension
  • Up to 5 days of carer’s leave and 2 paid volunteering days per year
  • Paternity, adoption and dependents leave
  • An Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) to support health and wellbeing
  • Learning and development hub where you can access a wealth of resources
  • Wellbeing and lifestyle discounts including gym, travel, and shopping
  • A chance to make a real difference to the lives of our residents

About the Role

This is an exciting time to join Surrey County Council's Children with Disabilities Service as we continue to embed the Family Safeguarding model to improve outcomes for our children. Working closely with colleagues in Education and Health, the Children with Disabilities Service aims to safeguard and promote the welfare and development of disabled children, whilst supporting them to be cared for by their families at home. The teams are made up of Family Support Workers and two team managers, one for the East and one for the West. We provide families with support to manage the care of children with severe and permanent disabilities.

As a Family Support Worker you will work directly with children and their families to assess and review their needs on a six-monthly basis, identifying packages of support to assist them. You will be conducting home visits, reviewing care packages across a multidisciplinary network and presenting families' needs to request packages of support.

Your Application

In order to be considered for shortlisting, your application will clearly evidence the following skills and align with our behaviours:

  • Achievement of Vocational Qualifications Level 3/4, or equivalent in relevant field, with experience of working with disabled children and their families
  • Understanding of relevant legislation affecting working with Children, including The Children Act (1989) and the Children and Families Act (2014)
  • A commitment to working with children to improve the quality of their lives
  • The ability to plan, manage, and prioritise a caseload
  • The ability to work effectively and flexibly as part of a team and a willingness to provide guidance and assistance to less experienced or more junior members of staff

Surrey has both urban and rural areas and candidates will be expected to have a valid driving licence to drive in the UK, access to a vehicle and be willing to travel across a wide geographical area. Reasonable adjustments where needed will be made for successful applicants who have a disability or long term health condition to enable them to fulfil the requirements of the job.

An enhanced DBS ‘Disclosure and Barring Service’ check for regulated activity (formerly known as CRB) and the Children’s and Adults’ Barred List checks will be required for this role.

The job advert closes at 23:59 on 26.07.2026 with interviews to follow.

Before submitting your application, we recommend you read the job description and Our Life at Surrey handbook to get an insight into working at Surrey.
