What will you be doing?

The Child Protection Chair Service is looking for a Child Protection Chair to join us. The role is diverse and complex, and offers independent oversight and challenge of practice with the children most at risk. The role requires chairing Child Protection Conferences, but can also include chairing complex Strategy Discussions. You will be quality assuring and driving practice forward. Sometimes this may require challenge of practice with services.

Kent is progressing significant developments through the Families First Programme, strengthening how we work with children and families across the county. This is an important period of change and learning, and Child Protection Chairs will have a key role in supporting consistent, child‑focused decision‑making and strong multi‑agency practice as new ways of working are introduced.

You will be supported to expand your experience through quality assurance work, including audits, learning reviews and service improvement projects. The service is planning to move to the Lead Child Protection Practitioner (LCPP) model in April 2027 as part of Families First. While the detail of the model is still being developed, joining now means you can contribute to the preparation and transition activity and help shape what works well for children and families in Kent.

This role is subject to holding a Full UK Driving Licence. The Council is committed to making reasonable adjustments; therefore, your application will still be considered if you are unable to drive due to a disability.

This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure application to the Disclosure and Barring service and registration as a qualified Social Worker with Social Work England.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
