We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated individual to join our Planning Enforcement Team as a Senior Planning Enforcement Officer. This is a key role across both South Hams District and West Devon Borough Councils delivering an effective enforcement service to ensure that development takes place in a sustainable manner.
 The ideal candidate will have previous experience in planning enforcement and will be forward thinking with an enthusiastic and innovative approach to providing an efficient planning enforcement service.
You will be responsible for managing, investigating and resolving planning, listed building and tree enforcement inquiries. You will also prepare and serve statutory notices, and monitor compliance with notices, and where necessary will collate and prepare evidence for prosecutions and planning appeals. Conflict resolution inevitably forms a large part of these roles and these skills alongside negotiation skills are essential for this role.
 There is an emphasis on engaging with the public and raising awareness of issues with the public before proceeding to any formal action. As our Major Projects Principal Planning Officer, you will provide appropriate advice on all major Development Management matters including the provision of appropriate pre-application advice and the effective and efficient processing of applications for planning permission and all other related consents in respect of major applications as well those considered complex, controversial and/or raising new aspects of planning policy.
We are looking for an individual with a planning or similar degree and significant Development Management experience along with outstanding communication and customer service skills, knowledge and understanding of planning legislation, case law and policy with experience of presenting to Planning Committees.
While Adur &amp; Worthing Councils largely operate joint services, for planning purposes Adur District Council and Worthing Borough Council remain 2 separate planning authorities with their own Local Plans and separate Planning Committee. Working for the Councils therefore provides the unique experience of dealing with 2 individual areas with some differing planning priorities but both striving to provide high quality development while maintaining an attractive environment for our residents. The work is therefore varied and rewarding and the small size of our team offers the opportunity to be at the forefront of important planning decisions.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the City Council’s Sustainable Communities Directorate for a Senior Planning Officer to join our Spatial Planning Team to focus on housing and infrastructure evidence base documents, as well as the delivery of various types of new housing.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience of planning policy work as well as research/analysis of housing issues and solutions. Ideally this includes being involved in the preparation, consultation and examination of statutory development plans and supporting evidence base documents as well as experience of securing housing on new development sites.
Educated with a relevant degree in town planning or related discipline with membership or eligibility to be a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, flexibility and the ability to analyse, interpret and present often complex information in a clear and concise manner.
The post is permanent, working 29 hours a week and based at the Civic Centre.
