About the role
We are recruiting for a Senior Finance Assistant to join our Exchequer Team.
Working three days per week, you will be instrumental in the successful delivery of our Council’s corporate banking functions. You will play a key role in ensuring the accurate and timely administration of the Council's banking activities, supporting the secure management of public funds and helping to maintain high standards of financial governance.
You will undertake a varied role involving the day-to-day administration of the Council's banking processes. Your duties will include obtaining and reviewing bank statements, importing daily bank files for the Council's income management system, investigating unidentified receipts and payments, allocating income, clearing suspense transactions and maintaining accurate records. Resolving queries from both internal and external stakeholders will also be key aspects of your role.
You will also prepare and administer documentation required to initiate payment processes, ensuring all supporting information is complete, accurate and compliant with the Council's financial procedure rules before payments are authorised through the appropriate approval routes.
About you
This role requires a methodical and organised individual with excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy. You will be comfortable working with financial information and investigating queries to successful conclusions. As many tasks are time-critical, you must be able to prioritise competing demands whilst maintaining consistently high standards of work. This includes being self motivated, with the confidence to work on your own initiative and as part of a team.
Experience of public sector finance and and practical knowledge of computerised financial ledger systems is desirable. If you are actively studying or a recently qualified AAT Technican (Level 4) then this would also be seen as advantageous. Proficiency in MS Office Suite, especially Excel, are essential.
