    Legal Assistant

    £15,841 - £16,885 per annum (Pay award pending)

    22.2 hours per week

    Maternity Cover – up to 12 months

    The successful candidate will focus on conveyancing transactions and residential and commercial property advice and drafting. There will also be the opportunity to develop in areas of local government law such as planning enforcement and grant agreements.

    This vacancy is temporary for up to 12 months with flexible days and hours (22.2h/week) and hybrid working. Mansfield Civic Centre is easy to access from the M1 and has ample free car parking on-site. There are bus stops immediately outside while the town centre railway station is a short walk away. The legal team is small but supportive with training given.

    As a fee earner, you will help council tenants purchase their first home under the right to buy and protect the council’s interests with deeds of covenants when they wish to sell on. Your varied caseload will also involve working with colleagues to understand their land ownership queries. You will then identify practical solutions by checking agreements and Land Registry records and using legal research websites.

    As a law graduate, you will ideally already be doing legal work and responsible for your own work, including

    • Drafting and negotiating transfers, leases, licences and notices
    • Researching boundary locations and analysing the rights and obligations in property documents

    To be successful in this role, you will have excellent interviewing, written and verbal communication skills together with a strong commitment to customer service. You will have attention to detail and a methodical approach to your work.
