<h4>The FIG Health &amp; Social Services Department are looking for a Pharmacist to join our existing team in managing and developing the current pharmacy service to support the delivery of high-quality primary, secondary and community health services by ensuring the safe, economic and effective use of medicines.&nbsp; The pharmacy is the only one in the Falkland Islands and is an integral part of the King Edward Memorial Hospital, based in the Island’s capital, Stanley the service follows UK practices and standards of care, modified to meet local needs and circumstances.&nbsp; </h4>
<h4>The Role</h4>
As the sole Pharmacist, working in conjunction with two Pharmacy Technicians and a Pharmacy Assistant, main accountabilities include managing the day to day running of the pharmacy department and when necessary, undertaking core dispensary-based tasks as well as developing and maintaining the hospital drug formulary.
You will also work in collaboration with clinical colleagues and subsequently ensure evidence-based, cost effective prescribing practices are followed by monitoring compliance with the formulary and take the lead role in running the smoking cessation clinic and other primary health clinics, according to the needs of the community and personal skill levels. &nbsp;
<h4>The Person</h4>
<ul>
<li>Hold a Master of Pharmacy Degree (or equivalent).</li>
<li>Be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) or equivalent professional registering body.</li>
<li>Have a minimum of 3 year’s post-registration experience working effectively in a multi-disciplinary team.</li>
<li>Management and staff training experience.</li>

Quality and Deputy Manager – Microbiology Speciality

The King Edward VII Memorial Hospital is looking for an experienced Quality Manager and Senior Biomedical Scientist with Microbiology as their main discipline to work in a friendly and supportive team which provides excellent care for patients and clients.
The King Edward VII Memorial Hospital is the principal healthcare facility in the Falkland Islands, providing primary care and a broad range of elective and emergency secondary care services as well as providing Food and Water testing for various industries within the Islands.&nbsp;
The hospital is well equipped with ambitious plans being developed to expand and upgrade facilities, located in a vibrant and unique community situated in the South Atlantic surrounded by stunning natural environment.
The Role
You would be working in a multidisciplinary laboratory where you would be expected to participate in the out of hours On-Call system which averages to one week out of three being On-Call.
This role itself has a dual function.&nbsp; As Quality Manager the post holder will be responsible for maintenance and improvement of the laboratory quality management system (for both Food, Water &amp; Environmental section and Clinical Pathology section) which is essential for achieving and maintaining accreditation.&nbsp; Additionally, the post holder would be expected to deputise for the laboratory manager during periods of annual leave or sickness.
The food and water testing section of the laboratory is required to work to standards listed in ISO 17025 and is essential to Falkland Islands’ Fish and Meat export industry and this role plays a key part in delivering accreditation of this service provision.
As a multi-skilled Senior Biomedical Scientist, the post holder will be part of a team that provides a high quality clinical diagnostic pathology service that meets appropriate standards (ISO 15189) and will take part in the provision of the of the multi-disciplinary pathology On-Call rota.&nbsp; You will be expected to contribute to the in-house training of staff and general progression of the laboratory skills mix.&nbsp; Ideally the applicant will have specialist level experience in Microbiology with some experience in Haematology and Biochemistry. Training in the other disciplines covered in the lab will provided to the successful applicant to a level that is adequate for the provision of routine and out of hours testing services.
The Person
We are looking for people with:

<li>A BSc in Biomedical Sciences or related subject</li>
<li>A relevant MSc</li>
<li>Health Care Professions Council (UK) registration</li>
<li>An Institute of Biomedical Science Specialist Diploma</li>
<li>At least 3 years’ experience working in a clinical laboratory and preferably at least 1 year of managerial experience</li>
<li>Experience of developing, implementing and managing formally recognised Quality Systems; familiarity with ISO15189 and ISO17025 would be beneficial.</li>
<li>Experience of working with LIMS systems within a laboratory framework</li>
</ul>
The Package
An attractive remuneration package is offered which includes:

<li>A base salary of £42,141 - £52,055 plus enhancements for unsocial hours and On-Call.</li>
<li>This position has been granted an 11% (£4,635 – £5,726) market supplement uplift of base salary for the first year, and may be added for subsequent years subject to review process. Bringing the salary to £46,776 - £57,781 for the first year.</li>
<li>A gratuity (lump sum payment) on completion of the contract term equivalent to 25% of the total base salary value of the contract excluding the market supplement.</li>
<li>A relocation allowance to help with moving costs.</li>
<li>Free flights for the employee and dependants at the beginning and end of the contract plus additional annual return flights after the first year.</li>
<li>Paid leave of 41 days comprising 30 days of annual leave and 11 days of public/government holidays.</li>

<h3>An exciting opportunity exists in the South Atlantic for a full-time Official Veterinarian to join our small, busy and very varied practice in the Falkland Islands starting in September 2025</h3>
<h3>The Role</h3>
The Veterinary Services of the Falkland Islands Government invites applications for the post of Veterinary Officer – Public Health.
The position consists of a focus primarily on public health duties for the Competent Authority of the Falkland Islands. The public health duties include working in the EU approved Abattoir and in fishery establishments (annual audits and inspections of vessels). Support to upskill in fishery sector requirements will be given. Other duties include participation in disease outbreak preparedness and biosecurity policies and eradication of zoonotic disease programmes.&nbsp; Travel to farms for farm audit visits will be required. This allows you to see a lot of the Falkland Islands and really be part of the agricultural community of the Falkland Islands.
Routine office hours are from 8am to 4:30pm, with a set lunch break between 12-1pm with some variations to hours during the busy slaughter season.
<h3>The Person</h3>
You should be a qualified Official Veterinarian and have at least 5 years’ OV experience working in food producing establishments or a similar field. Ideally that will include red meat EU approved establishments and a good knowledge of EU food producing legislation. Experience and a willingness to participate in and help review and develop disease outbreak response protocols, consider biosecurity and zoonotic disease eradication programmes would be advantageous.
