Woking Borough Council has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced professional to join our busy and dedicated Housing Standards Team as a Housing Standards Officer on a full time, permanent basis.

Reporting to the Senior Housing Standards Officer, in this role you'll be responsible for improving housing standards across the Borough by working pro-actively and providing advice and guidance, undertaking detailed property inspections, and taking appropriate enforcement action using a wide range of relevant legislation, including licensing, to reduce hazards in housing in the private sector. With the implementation of the Renters’ Rights Act and the introduction of Additional Licensing of Houses in Multiple Occupation, you will be at the forefront of major changes within the sector.

We are looking for someone with experience in Housing Standards and a knowledge of housing legislation across all areas of housing standards. This is a varied role suited to someone with excellent customer service skills and knowledge and experience of residential property and tenancies. It is important that you have a positive and confident outlook, experience of working with diverse client groups and can communicate accurately and effectively with a wide range of people.

There is the opportunity to undertake a Level 4 Apprenticeship in Regulatory Compliance with a focus on Housing.

The interview will include a short written element.
