Job Introduction

About us

Royal Greenwich is a vibrant borough, with a rich history and diverse community. We’re proud of the work we do to serve our residents.

We have a vision of a happier, healthier and more connected borough. To achieve this, we’re investing heavily in our digital services. We published our first ever digital strategy in 2020 and are currently updating it to shape what we're working on for the next four years and beyond.

It’s an exciting time to join us. We're searching for people-focused digital experts to join our team. We’re focused on improving services for our residents and making our borough truly digital. There's plenty of opportunity for you to have your say and help shape our work.

Read our blog to find out about us and what we're working on.

The role

As a content designer in our Product team in Digital, Operations and Access, you’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team working on designing new products and improving existing ones.

You’ll work closely with other council teams to improve information about their services, listening to their needs and balancing them with business and technical constraints.

You’ll speak up for our users, whether they are residents or staff, and use data and research to make sure our products and services meet their needs.

You’ll report to a senior content designer and play an active role in our content design community of practice.

What you'll do

  • Lead content design for our most complex products and services, working in the open with the user at the centre of all you do, including working across multiple product teams concurrently.
  • Work in multidisciplinary teams to deliver services end to end from discovery to live.
  • Contribute to content strategy for whole service transformation and product development.
  • Contributing to the creation of standards, guidance and style patterns for the council, making sure content is human-centred, clear, accessible, helpful, inclusive and is of a high standard across all channels and services.
  • Working with people across the council to explain the benefits of content design and transfer skills wherever appropriate.
  • Support more junior members of the team to work in multidisciplinary teams, helping develop high-performing people.

Who we’re looking for

For this role, you’ll need to have some content design experience, ideally on multidisciplinary agile projects. You’ll also need experience of managing stakeholder relationships.

We are looking for someone who share our values and principles:

  • naturally curious – you keep on top of your own learning and development and are up to date with the latest techniques and trends in your field
  • an advocate for user-centered practices, embedded within agile delivery
  • able to explain complex technical concepts in plain language
  • committed to improving residents’ lives and opportunities
  • demonstrating respect and fairness
  • taking ownership
  • doing things better
  • working together across the council

These values are incredibly important to us, as is building an environment that promotes knowledge, empathy, equality, and skill sharing.

What we offer

  • 28 days’ annual leave, rising to 31 after 5 years' service
  • Flexible and partly remote working arrangements
  • Mental health support, including an external counselling service
  • Pension scheme
  • Long service awards
  • Learning and development opportunities, including apprenticeships
  • Staff networks for mental health, LGBTQ+ support, racial equality and more
  • Vouchers for free eye tests
  • Annual season ticket loans
  • Childcare voucher scheme
  • Reduced-rate gym membership
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Greenwich One Card which entitles you to discounts at local businesses
