About the role

The Greater Cambridge Partnership (GCP) is responsible for transforming Greater Cambridge through a City Deal aimed at unlocking the economic growth potential of the area over the coming decades and releasing thousands of new jobs and homes.

This role will lead and support on communications for a range of projects being delivered by the GCP.

The postholder will lead and be responsible for the delivery of our communications, public engagement and consultation. You will work with colleagues across the organisation on the delivery of our communications strategy to engage with our audiences and make sure that the public are able to input and give us feedback on our projects.

The Communications Manager will work closely with colleagues across GCP and support the Head of Public Affairs and Stakeholder Management.

What will you be doing?

The postholder will be a key member of our team and will:

  • Deliver internal and external communications, including media liaison
  • Lead on communications to support projects
  • Drive innovation, creative thinking and alternative ways of delivering outcomes in line with delivering the GCP’s vision
  • Manage resources within agreed procedures

From speaking to the media, developing a stakeholder programme and working with the team to produce exciting and innovative campaign materials, you will explain how schemes and projects are being delivered to drive improvements for people living, working, studying, and playing in and around the city.

About you

The Greater Cambridge Partnership offers completely flexible working arrangements which includes hybrid working. Although the office for the Greater Cambridge Partnership will continue to be based in the city of Cambridge, we are flexible on location and working pattern and actively encourage flexible working.

We’re proud to be an inclusive and equal opportunities employer, committed to hiring people based on attitude and merit, regardless of gender identity or expression, ethnic origin, nationality, religion or beliefs, sexual orientation, disability status or any other protected characteristic. We're committed to building a culturally diverse workforce and therefore encourage applications from groups that are underrepresented within the council.

Our website can be viewed at www.greatercambridge.org.uk.

If you have any questions or wish to discuss the role, please contact us at gcp.admin@cambridgeshire.gov.uk

Interviews will take place week commencing 03 August 2026 in-person at Mandela House, Regent Street, Cambridge CB2 1BY.

About us

Cambridgeshire is a great place to work and live with a diverse population, an urban centre in Cambridge, historic Isle of Ely, Huntingdon and St Ives as well as more rural landscapes.

Our four values are central to our culture, driving everything we do.

We are proud to serve the diverse communities of Cambridgeshire and want our workforce to be reflective of this diversity, which we firmly believe benefits our colleagues, the organisation and our communities. If you don’t meet every single requirement in the job role but think this could be you, please don’t be put off. We are committed to building a workplace that is compassionate and inclusive as well as diverse, so if you think you could be a good candidate for this role please consider applying and speak to the recruiting manager if you have any questions.

Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy, along with our employee network 'IDEAL' and self-organised peer support groups help us to foster an inclusive, supportive and safe working environment where people feel valued, respected, and empowered. We collect relevant diversity data for monitoring as part of the recruitment process to understand the diversity of our applicants and monitor any trends throughout the recruitment processes so that we can take meaningful action.

We are proud to be a Disability Confident Leader. We fully support providing reasonable adjustments throughout our recruitment process, as well as when you join us, and we encourage candidates to contact the Hiring Manager, whose details can be found in the advert, to discuss any adjustment needs. Through a Guaranteed Interview Scheme, we will offer an interview to all applicants who disclose a disability and meet the essential criteria for a job vacancy. On your application form you can indicate you are disabled. Some examples of reasonable adjustments during the recruitment process could include additional time to complete an assessment or printing a document on pastel coloured paper with larger font size and line spacing. We would value talking about what might be possible to enable you to join us and thrive, so if there is something that would help you to do your best during your journey with us, please get in touch.
