We’re hiring a Digital Communications Officer! If you love variety, have a creative eye, and want to help make a meaningful impact we want to hear from you! 
In this role, you’ll work with senior leaders, elected members and teams right across the council from public health and social care, to community safety, highways, recycling and beyond. One day you might be filming TikToks with one of our recycling crews and the next, you’re capturing the latest developments on the regenerations of our town centres, or filming councillors as they visit local schools and businesses. 
You’ll help us to connect with more than 185,000 residents through platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and more creating scroll-stopping content that captures the heart of our 700+ services and the people behind them. We’ve got powerful stories to tell, and we need someone who knows how to make them shine. 
We’re looking for someone with the creativity and drive to take content from concept to completion shooting, editing, posting and adapting it for different channels. You’ll be confident storyboarding ideas, spotting trends and turning them into engaging narratives, as well as working closely with colleagues both across the council and partner agencies. You’ll use analytics and measure success, learn what resonates and refine your approach to deliver even greater impact.

About the Role
As the Head of Communications, you will lead the council’s external and internal communications strategy across all platforms—digital, print, and media. An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team as a Communications and Marketing Officer in partnership with Bird Aware Essex. If you are creative and driven, and keen to play a key role in developing and delivering engaging communication and marketing activities that promote the project’s aims, strengthen the Bird Aware Essex brand, and inspire&nbsp;behaviour change among coastal visitors then we would love to hear from you.
Bird Aware Essex is a partnership initiative working to protect the internationally important birdlife of the Essex coast. The project aims to raise awareness of coastal birds and encourage responsible recreation so that people and wildlife can share the coast harmoniously.
Working as part of our friendly and passionate team, the successful applicant will lead on the development of online and offline communications, social media, marketing campaigns and media relations to increase the visibility and impact of the project. Alongside this, duties include supporting collaborative working with partner organisations as well as rangers and other members of the Bird Aware Essex team to ensure a consistent and professional approach to all communications.
Applicants will be experienced communications or marketing professionals with a proven ability to plan, deliver and evaluate campaigns across multiple channels, possessing excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to translate complex environmental messages into clear and engaging content.
The post holder will be confident using a range of digital tools and platforms, including social media management, website editing, analytics and design software such as Canva. A creative approach, combined with good organisational and time management skills, will be essential. A genuine interest in wildlife, conservation and the natural environment is highly desirable, as is the ability to work effectively with a wide range of partners and stakeholders.
The post requires flexibility, with some occasional travel to coastal locations for photography, filming and events, and occasional work outside normal office hours.
Please note that this role is currently on a part time basis (3 days per week) and fixed term for 24 months.
