About The Team You’ll Be Working In
This is an exciting and busy role that is at the centre of the Councils response to homelessness. The service is developing and progressing our agenda to reduce the use of temporary accommodation and achieve more upstream prevention outcomes.

2. This role is to fulfil the council’s statutory homelessness assessment and decision-making function, with particular focus on those in emergency and temporary accommodation. You will proactively prevent and resolve crisis across the housing, health and social care agendas, utilising support services, discretionary funds and assistance and ensuring that accommodation is affordable.
3. You will complete detailed holistic assessments of housing and support needs and devise and progress personalised housing plans, and you will provide interventions, support and referrals to minimise the time spent in temporary accommodation.
About You
You have extensive knowledge and experience of the Housing Act 1996 (as amended) and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, working with vulnerable people, and experience of working within a multi-disciplinary housing teams and work involving complex needs and diverse client groups and an expert knowledge of homelessness and associated legislation.

Relevant experience of working in a customer services role in a Local Authority or Building Maintenance environment would be beneficial. The successful applicant will also have an excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel packages. A basic understanding of building maintenance.

To receive and investigate applications from people who are homeless or threatened with homelessness, ensuring that applicants housing and support needs are assessed and met in accordance with the Council’s statutory duties and policies.&nbsp;
Duties and responsibilities will include:

<li>Complete visits to temporary accommodation properties within the Dartford Borough and out of borough</li>
<li>Meet with the families/individuals living in the temporary accommodation to gain update of their circumstances and offer support, guidance and assistance</li>
<li>Produce a comprehensive visiting report and upload to the customers housing application and ensure robust data entry for statistical reporting purposes.</li>
<li>Escalate any safeguarding concerns to management and report accordingly</li>
<li>Investigate housing disrepair issues including damp and mould and report to temporary accommodation providers / Dartford Borough Council repairs team and follow up to ensure repairs are remedied</li>
<li>Investigate complaints regarding temporary accommodation standards and liaise with temporary accommodation providers to escalate concerns</li>
<li>Provide applicants with comprehensive advice on the full range of housing options available to them taking into account their needs and aspirations</li>
<li>Work in partnership with the wider housing solutions team to create viable housing solutions that provide pathways into alternative housing where homelessness was not able to be prevented</li>
<li>Develop and maintain close working relations with a broad cross-section of council services and partners in order to encourage joint working and secure the assistance and support that is required with applicants housing issues.</li>

The Post
Shared Lives is an alternative to traditional types of care and support available to adults with a learning disability. In Shared Lives, a person lives, or stays with a Shared Lives carer within the local community. The Shared Lives carer provides the care and support in their own family home and as part of their own family and community network. The person would become part of the carer’s extended family and be supported by the Shared Lives carer to live the life they choose.
Hackney Shared Lives supports people who rely on the help and support of others to maximise their potential and maintain their sense of independence.
Hackney shared lives scheme is a CQC (Care Quality Commission) registered service offering the opportunity for vulnerable adults to live in the community. The adult is “matched” with a carer who is recruited, assessed, trained and supported by scheme officers.
The role of the registered manager is to support this process and ensure the compliance of the scheme within the remit of CQC. Each placement is different and this brings challenges and rewards.The registered manager is responsive to CQC, Shared Lives plus (who offer oversight of all 150 schemes nationally) and also works alongside the multidisciplinary Mental Health and Learning Disabilities teams who refer to the service.
Shared Lives Carers are self employed and supported to ensure their fees are competitive and vacancies are advertised. The team has enjoyed a period of stability, including the restructure of the scheme financially and procedurally. The scheme is ready to grow and increase the offer of community living to vulnerable people in Hackney.
The Person
Whilst we value experience, you will need to be committed to providing quality service and opportunities to the people living within Shared Lives. You will need to demonstrate your understanding of supporting people on the Autism Spectrum and Learning Disabilities.
