What will you be doing?

Are you highly organised, detail-focused, and innovative? We are seeking a Business Support Lead to join our Children’s Commissioning Team, supporting critical functions that ensure compliance and drive improvement across the four divisions we support across the Children, Young People and Education Directorate.

About the Role

We are looking for a highly organised and motivated individual who embraces new approaches and new ways of working, and is capable of managing their own time and that of others.

With support from a small team of Administration Officers, the role is responsible for providing a coordinated and comprehensive business and administrative support service to the Commissioning teams, managers and the Head of Service, ensuring the team is able to fulfil its functions as efficiently as possible and meet the needs of the children and young people of Kent.

The successful candidate will need to be able to work well as part of a team and also be confident at working independently on their own projects and managing their priorities. They will need to be able to exercise total confidentiality and the highest degree of tact and diplomacy in dealings with staff at all levels, as well as internal and external partners, at times involving complex matters.

The post holder will need to be skilled and knowledgeable about computer systems and Microsoft software, and be demonstrably able to learn new systems quickly and support others to do so.

As the Business Support Lead, you will:

  • Supervise a team of Administration Officers.
  • Act as a central point of contact for commissioning queries and project coordination.
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping and data integrity across all activities.
  • Liaise confidently with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Support the development of systems and processes that enhance efficiency and compliance.
  • Oversee the administration of financial systems relating to expenditure and income e.g. I-procurement management for processing orders and invoices, monitoring expenditure, purchase card transactions, in accordance with financial regulations and directorate procedures.
  • To continuously review team and system processes and identify opportunities for improvement, scoping options for change and implementing change in process.

Kent County Council is committed to a hybrid working model with a flexible working offer – we will provide the equipment you need to work from home, and you will be expected to work from our offices in Maidstone as and when required as well as travelling to other KCC offices and provider services.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.

This post is subject to a Basic Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

The closing date for applications is 2 August 2026 .

Interviews are scheduled to be held in the week commencing 17 August 2026 and will take place virtually via Microsoft Teams.
