Be part of our successful Council Tax team to compile and maintain records of our 100,000 properties across Sevenoaks and Dartford districts.
Our team are responsible for dealing with all aspects of Council Tax, from administration and billing to recovery and enforcement. You’ll be responsible for answering telephone enquiries covering all aspects of Council Tax and responding to emails and letters received from our customers.

The Role:
An exciting opportunity has become available to join the Revenues and Benefits team at Hastings Borough Council.
The Revenues and Benefits team is responsible for the timely and accurate assessment of Housing Benefits and Council Tax Support claims in accordance with legislation/local scheme and service performance targets and the billing and recovery of Council Tax ensuring that collection rates and targets are achieved.

Revenues and Benefits Compliance Officer

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed person to join our team on a part-time basis. The role of the Compliance Officer is to protect and maximise the Council Tax/Business Rate base by undertaking risk based reviews of all discounts, exemptions and reliefs, including Local Council Tax Support, to ensure that they are granted correctly and that where incorrect, the reduction, discount or exemption is removed or reduced accordingly, and where appropriate impose penalties in line with policies and legislation. On successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will also be awarded the Certificate of Local Taxation, Revenues and Welfare Benefits (Tech IRRV).
The apprenticeship will take approximately 18 months to complete through a blended approach combining virtual training days, online webinars, work shadowing and workplace mentoring.
What we need from you:
<ul>
<li>A good standard of education to GCSE level including minimum Grade C/4 in English and Mathematics or equivalent.</li>
<li>A ‘can-do’ attitude and eager to learn.</li>
<li>Ability to work accurately and quickly with high attention to detail.</li>
<li>Excellent communication skills both on the telephone and in writing.</li>
<li>Good with numbers and proficient in the use of ICT systems.</li>
</ul>
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, there may be an opportunity to secure permanent employment in the Revenues and Benefits team.
A satisfactory basic disclosure check and check of employment history will be required before appointment.
