Recovery & NNDR Officer

Wyre Council is seeking a motivated and customer-focused Recovery & NNDR Officer to join our Revenues & Recovery team. This is a key role supporting the Council’s income collection and ensuring the accuracy of the Non-Domestic Rates (Business Rates) database.

About the role

You will help maximise the collection of Council Tax, Business Rates (NNDR) and sundry debts, while delivering a fair, professional and customer-focused service. The role involves maintaining the NNDR database, dealing with complex recovery cases, and working closely with internal teams, external agencies and customers. You will also represent the Council at Magistrates’ Court where required.

Key responsibilities

  • Maintain and update the NNDR database, including reliefs, discounts and exemptions
  • Liaise with the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) and internal departments
  • Handle enquiries relating to unpaid Council Tax, Business Rates and sundry debts
  • Negotiate payment arrangements to maximise recovery
  • Refer cases to Enforcement Agents and request deductions from earnings or benefits
  • Monitor recovery cases and take appropriate action

What we’re looking for

You will be organised, resilient and confident in dealing with challenging situations in a busy environment.

Essential requirements

  • Level 2 English and Maths (GCSE or equivalent)
  • Experience of Council Tax and Business Rates work
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to manage a varied workload and maintain confidentiality

Desirable

  • IRRV qualification
  • Knowledge of NNDR legislation and VOA processes
  • Full driving licence
