The Role
The Economy Team is excited to announce a recruitment opportunity within the ‘Opportunity North Somerset’ team to support the government-funded Youth Guarantee Trailblazer project, focused on empowering care-experienced young people.
Opportunity North Somerset is seeking a proactive and dedicated Employer Engagement Project Officer, experienced in building strong relationships with businesses across sectors.
This role plays a key part in ensuring that care experienced young people aged 18-21 have access to meaningful work-based learning that enhances their employability and supports their transition into sustained employment.
The role will involve promoting the benefits to businesses of offering work experience and employment opportunities and supporting employers throughout the placement process.
You will collaborate closely with colleagues across the Economy Team, particularly within Business Support, to share intelligence, align employer engagement efforts, and ensure a joined-up approach to supporting local businesses and young people.
Strong interpersonal skills are essential, as you will be the primary point of contact for project participants, the Care-Leavers team, the Business Engagement Officer, and partner providers across the region. A creative and collaborative problem-solving approach will be critical in delivering one-to-one coaching sessions, achieving positive employment and progression outcomes, and meeting project monitoring and reporting requirements.
You will be required to visit employers across North Somerset so a driving licence and access to transport will be beneficial.
You will be working closely with the Employment Project Officer for Care Experienced Young People and will work under the supervision of the Senior Employment and Skills Officer as part of a small, but very supportive team of experienced and knowledgeable staff.

Work Style
At North Somerset Council, we offer a hybrid working environment based on four distinct work styles. Depending on the role and personal circumstances, you will fall into one of these categories. However, please note that during the induction period, it may be necessary to spend more time in the office to support your learning and development. We are flexible and open to discussions about your preferred working style, and if you wish to be in the office more frequently, this can be negotiated.
This role falls into the category of Flexible Worker which means you can expect to work in the following way:
- 2-3 days in the office
- Works both from home and the office, depending on the task at hand.
- Training is provided to help balance work-life and manage time effectively, with an emphasis on communication for team touchpoints and planning in-office days for collaboration.
