This post is 5 hours a week, evenings and only 39 weeks of the year.

The Youth Activity Worker will provide direct face-to-face support, guidance, and mentoring to young people aged 11-25 who attend one of Blaenau Gwent Youth Service’s Youth Clubs. In addition, the post holder will work as part of a small team of youth workers within the Youth Club setting, ensuring all outcomes are met.

An exciting and rewarding opportunity has opened for an enthusiastic individual to join the authority’s youth service team and help provide a range of activities, mentor, support, and provide information and guidance to young people attending an open-access youth club provision.

As a Youth Activity Worker, you will work as part of a small team of youth workers, arranging activities and workshops to meet all outcomes and work programmes set. The Activity Worker will also be responsible for planning and delivering a full programme of activity for young people, considering their views.

You will develop strong links with the other youth clubs and the surrounding community to help meet the needs of the young people and community; to provide a comprehensive and holistic programme of work, whilst also addressing barriers some young people may face.

Essential to the role is a Level 3 Youth Support Worker Qualification and registration with the Education Workforce. Based within an open-access youth club setting, you will also have experience of working face-to-face with young people in an open-access setting. Previous experience of working with young people is also desirable.

Required skills include.

excellent interpersonal / communication skills with the ability to relate to and enthuse young people,

the ability to work independently and as part of a multi-agency team,

the ability to assess the needs of young people and develop an appropriate programme of work, and

a high level of personal resilience, including the ability to manage conflict and deal with stressful situations.
