The Role
Reporting to the Head of Sustainable Places and Growth, the Weston Placemaking Manager will lead a small team in driving forward the SuperWeston Placemaking programme, focusing on collaboration and partnership working to deliver high priority regeneration projects and develop the council’s cultural programme. This will include programme / project management of programmes such as the Levelling Up Fund, as well as strategically positioning the council’s assets, concessions, and events activity.
The postholder will develop the significant synergies between the curation of cultural assets, concessions and spaces and placemaking projects delivery to maximise the value of the product and experience that Weston provides, supported by a compelling approach to brand, communications and engagement. They will ensure strong governance and matrix management to align internal and external partners behind the programme, ethos and brand.
Key responsibilities:
- Leadership of a multi-disciplinary team to provide strategy, delivery of projects and curation of communications, cultural activity and events.
- Matrix managing delivery through council services to deliver placemaking outcomes in Weston.
- Owning, using and developing the Weston Placemaking Strategy, the SuperWeston brand identity and communication strategies and platforms to broadcast Weston’s product to attract funding and investment.
- Working positively and proactively with public, private and voluntary sector partners to align and influence projects and campaigns to support the overall intent of the Weston Placemaking for the good of the town
- Developing, securing funding for and acting as client for delivery of a set of projects that meet the Weston vision in the Placemaking Strategy and constitute the council’s contribution to the Weston product.
- Cultivating and leading proactive strategic relationships and partnerships with major institutional stakeholders to deliver investment and placemaking in Weston.
- Ensuring the use, development, branding and management of the council’s cultural assets and concessions are curated to be properly aligned to and maximise their contribution to Weston Placemaking objectives and are financially sustainable.
- Leading the development of a strategically aligned programme of cultural and visitor events within the town to support placemaking objectives
Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.
Work Style
At North Somerset Council, we offer a hybrid working environment based on four distinct work styles. Depending on the role and personal circumstances, you will fall into one of these categories. However, please note that during the induction period, it may be necessary to spend more time in the office to support your learning and development. We are flexible and open to discussions about your preferred working style, and if you wish to be in the office more frequently, this can be negotiated.
This role falls into the category of Flexible Worker which means you can expect to work in the following way:
- 2-3 days in the office
- Works both from home and the office, depending on the task at hand.
- Training is provided to help balance work-life and manage time effectively, with an emphasis on communication for team touchpoints and planning in-office days for collaboration.
About You
We are looking for an individual with significant placemaking and partnership-working experience, including experience of capital project delivery.

- Educated to degree or equivalent standard in a related subject.
- An approved professional qualification relevant to Project /Programme Management or delivering communication and marketing campaigns.
- Significant post qualification experience in delivering complex and challenging multi-faceted projects, to give knowledge and understanding equivalent to a further advanced qualification in the service area.
- Demonstrable skills in eliciting cooperation from a wide variety of sources including, senior management, sub-regional partners and other organisations and agencies.
- Significant experience in managing others, including other professionals, in a multi discipline and/or integrated setting.
- Extensive experience in service development and embedding improvements into work methodologies through projects.
- Knowledge and understanding of resourcing including procurement, contract, financial and staff management
