With an increase in tenants needing assistance following the cost of living crisis and rise in household living costs it is vital that the Council has the capability to support them and ensure they are able to maximise their income and successfully sustain their tenancies. The post holder will work within the Rents Team acting as a referral point for all vulnerable tenants with a view to preventing arrears accruing. You will be experienced in working in a housing environment or a similar role, enthusiastic, organised and looking for a challenging new role.

Key areas of responsibility will include:

  • Carry out interviews, telephone calls and home visits to tenants requiring additional support to sustain their tenancies, assisting them maximising their income and promote financial inclusion
  • Work closely with the other disciplines within Housing and Tenancy Services to provide a comprehensive, cohesive and joined up service to tenants and customers
  • Liaising with other Council Departments, Kent County Council and other agencies to effectively deal with tenancy matters
  • Provide support to the Rents Team monitoring rent arrears and taking action where necessary
  • Assist with tenancy affordability checks and tenancy signups ensuing all documentation is provided for Universal Credit and Housing benefit claims assisting tenants in applying when necessary
  • Have an innovative approach to public services, improving tenant satisfaction, meeting the requirements of the Government’s Social Housing Charter and delivering the Council’s Corporate Plan

You must be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Ability to manage and prioritise a busy workload
  • Working knowledge of housing legislation and welfare reform
  • Confidence, enthusiasm and a flexible approach
  • Demonstrate excellent numeracy, administration skills, accuracy and attention to detail
  • Good keyboard skills and the proven ability to learn and utilise new software
  • Good customer care skills
  • The ability to discuss sensitive issues with our customers calmly
  • Availability to participate in an out of hours Emergency Standby Call Out Rota

A full driving licence and access to your own car is required for this post.

Salary range
