    The Role

    Be the face of the Council. Put residents first. Prevent crisis before it happens.

    We are looking for a proactive and resident-focused Visiting and Tenancy Sustainment Officer to lead on a structured programme of home visits to Brent’s most vulnerable council tenants.

    This is not a desk-based housing role. You will be out in the community — building trust, identifying risks early, and coordinating support to ensure residents can sustain their tenancies safely and successfully.

    You’ll carry out dynamic risk assessments in residents’ homes, identifying health and safety concerns, fire risks, damp and mould, potential disrepair, safeguarding issues and tenancy breaches. You’ll work closely with Area Tenancy Managers, Repairs, Capital Works and specialist services to ensure issues are escalated, monitored and resolved.

    You’ll also capture vital household data that informs service planning and supports the council to better understand and respond to need across the borough.

    From promoting fire safety and testing alarms, to identifying vulnerability and referring residents for financial inclusion, employment or safeguarding support — your role will be central to preventing tenancy breakdown and protecting residents.

    • Prevent homelessness by identifying risk before crisis

    • Reduce fire, health and safety and property risks
    • Ensure residents live in safe, well-maintained homes
    • Strengthen trust between the council and the community
    • Improve data and intelligence that shapes future housing services

    You are the council’s eyes and ears on the ground.
    Your visits are often the first opportunity to identify when something isn’t right — and to act before situations escalate.

    This is preventative housing management at its most meaningful.

    The Person

    We’re looking for someone who combines housing knowledge with empathy, confidence and resilience.

    You will have:

    • Experience working within social housing or a local authority environment
    • A strong understanding of landlord responsibilities, safeguarding and housing legislation
    • Experience supporting vulnerable residents
    • Knowledge of fire safety, health and welfare considerations in housing
    • The ability to conduct risk assessments and manage complex situations calmly
    • Excellent customer service skills with a non-judgemental approach
    • Strong written skills and the ability to record accurate, detailed case notes
    • Confidence using housing systems and technology
    • The ability to manage competing priorities and work independently
    • Flexibility to undertake occasional out-of-hours visits where required

    A CIH Level 3 qualification (or equivalent experience) is desirable.

    You’ll be someone who can relate to residents from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds, build trust quickly and coordinate services effectively to deliver outcomes.
