Are you an experienced vehicle maintenance professional ready to lead a busy and diverse fleet workshop? Or are you an ambitious supervisor or senior technician looking to take the next step in your career?

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Environmental Services team as our Vehicle Workshop Manager, leading the maintenance and compliance of the Council's fleet and plant across our operational depots. This is a key role supporting the delivery of frontline services for our communities.

The role

As Vehicle Workshop Manager, you will lead, plan and coordinate the maintenance, servicing and repair of the Council's fleet and plant, ensuring all vehicles and equipment remain safe, compliant and operational.

You will manage a team of workshop supervisors and technicians across our depots, ensuring maintenance schedules are delivered effectively and resources are deployed efficiently. Working closely with managers throughout the Council, you will ensure repairs and servicing are completed in a timely manner, secure best value when procuring parts and external services, and maintain accurate records to meet legislative and operational requirements.

This is a varied and rewarding role that combines strategic planning, people management and hands-on involvement, helping to ensure that our essential frontline services continue to operate effectively.

About you

You will have:

  • Level 3 NVQ in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (or equivalent experience).
  • Level 5 Management qualification (or equivalent management experience).
  • Strong technical knowledge of vehicle and plant maintenance.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Experience of managing budgets and monitoring expenditure.
  • Experience of preparing and reviewing risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • A commitment to high standards of health, safety and compliance.
