The Adult Education Service is part of Coventry City Council. We provide a wide range of courses for Coventry residents age 19+ and much of our provision is targeted at people with the highest levels of need.

We offer long courses in English, maths, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), ICT/Digital and vocational subjects such as Early Years, along with provision for adults with learning disabilities.

We also offer a very wide range of short community courses in arts, crafts, music, dance, exercise, fitness and family learning. In addition, we run a highly supportive study programme for young people.

Our work-based learning offer includes Apprenticeships in the following subject areas:

• Nursery Workers
• Teaching Assistants
• Leadership/Management; and
• Customer Care.

We also provide courses for adults who are seeking work via the Council’s Job Shop.

Our main base is at Southfields Old School, CV1 5EJ, with provision delivered at around 25 other sites within Coventry, mostly in areas of highest need.

Full-Time Permanent Tutor – 16–24 Study Programme
Coventry Adult Education Service

We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Tutor to join our 16–25 Study Programme provision at Coventry Adult Education. This is a full-time, permanent position based at Adult Education, Southfields Old School, delivering face-to-face teaching to groups of approximately 8–10 learners. Many of our learners have Educational Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), so experience supporting young people with additional needs is highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

The Tutor will deliver a range of accredited and non-accredited qualifications, including:

• Functional Skills Maths and/or English (Entry Level to Level 2)

• GCSE Maths and/or English

Teaching delivery will take place over up to 3 days per week, with the remaining 2 days allocated for preparation and marking.

We welcome applications from Tutors with strengths in either subject area. Session allocation and delivery preferences can be discussed at interview.

Applicant Requirements

• Right to work in the UK for a minimum of 2 years (please note: visa sponsorship is not available).

• Commitment to supporting young people with diverse learning needs.

• Relevant subject knowledge and teaching experience; teaching qualifications are desirable.

Safeguarding

This post is exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Appointment is subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Tutor to join our Study Programme team. In consultation with the Study Programme Manager, subject tutors and Learning Support Assistants, you will deliver sessions to individuals or small groups of young people where some learners have a range of special educational needs.

You will support learners with additional learning needs enabling them to participate as fully as possible in the Study Programme.

You will be responsible for maintaining learner records and individual learning plans, as directed by the Study Programme Manager. You will support young people who experience anxiety in returning to education.

You will work as part of a dynamic team to ensure that learners are supported in addressing their educational and pastoral issues, liaising with other colleagues and agencies as appropriate.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

• Relevant experience of working as a tutor and supporting young people.
• A Functional Skills/GCSE maths and English qualification at Grade C/4 or equivalent.
• A relevant teaching qualification at level four minimum

On interview you will deliver a 20-minute teaching topic of your choice to a class of 8-10 learners followed by a 40 minute face to face panel interview. Upon short listing you will be advised on the level the learners are currently working towards for your chosen topic.
