
Tree Preservation Officer
Planning Policy and Environment is a service area within Coventry City Council which supports the growth of the city.
The vision and commitment of the Planning Policy and Environment team ensure there is a robust platform to guide the delivery of sustainable development, making provision for local people through the delivery of housing, jobs, retail and community uses whilst creating high-quality urban and natural environments.
The service area sits within a larger team alongside Development Management, Building Control and Regulatory Services, and encompasses several individual yet related specialisms, all focused on delivering a city for those wishing to live and work here. Those specialisms include Planning, Ecology, Trees and Landscape, Urban Design, Conservation, Archaeology and Environmental Protection.

We are looking for a Tree Preservation Officer to deliver a high-quality tree service in a way that contributes to the achievement of the City Council’s vision and objectives for a growing and sustainable city.
As a high-performing Planning Team, we are currently transforming the way we provide our service, looking to improve our processes to find further efficiencies and ensure the delivery of a value-for-money service.
In your role you will:
Provide advice on applications for works to protected trees and those in Conservation Areas, and other planning matters as required
Identify worthy trees and make new Tree Preservation Orders
Defend tree applications at appeals, and liaise with Planning Enforcement when breaches of TPOs exist.

This is a part-time role, where the successful candidate will be working 24 hours per week.

Who are we looking for?We are looking for an enthusiastic arboriculturist to join the Council’s Ecology & Biodiversity team. You must have strong technical knowledge coupled with the ability to generate innovative and deliverable solutions. Ideally, you will have experience working with local community groups and delivering complex projects.
You must be able to work using your own initiative, as well as working as part of a large team to demonstrate a One Coventry ethos and a supportive working environment. If this is you, then come and join us, be part of the team.
