    About the role

Are you passionate about making places better and improving local transport options?

Do you want to turn exciting transport plans into real, on the‑theground improvements that help people travel more sustainably?

If you’re enthusiastic, motivated, and ready to take the next step in your transport or project management career, we’d love to hear from you.

We’re looking for a driven Transport Project Officer to join our Highways and Transport Service, playing a vital part in shaping and delivering the future of transport in our area. You’ll help turn strategic plans and policies into practical actions—improving connectivity, supporting sustainable travel, and creating better places for people.

In this varied and rewarding role, you will:

    • Develop transport schemes and programmes from concept through to deliverable interventions
    • Lead feasibility and design work to bring ideas to life
    • Engage with stakeholders, communities, and partners
    • Secure and coordinate funding to support new initiatives
    • Manage the delivery of non‑major transport improvements, including those funded by developers
    • Support and coordinate transport related‑related developer contributions through the planning process

Every day will bring something different, and your work will directly contribute to shaping a more accessible, sustainable transport network.

    Additional information

    You will bring:

    • A solid understanding of project management principles and techniques
    • Knowledge of transport, planning, and sustainability issues relevant to a local government highways environment
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders
    • Confidence working independently, managing priorities, and meeting deadlines
    • Strong written skills with the ability to prepare clear, concise technical reports
    • Degree level‑level education and some project management training or experience

Most importantly, you’re motivated to continue growing your expertise in transport and project delivery—and you’re excited by the chance to make a real impact.
