Trainee/ Financial Inclusion Officer (Ref: TFO)

FIXED TERM CONTRACT – 12 MONTHS

Starting Salary as Trainee £30,957.16 pa

Rising to £32,380.92 pa on qualification

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join the Financial Inclusion team. If you already hold an Institute of Money Advisors qualification, you can join us as a Financial Inclusion Officer. However, if not, we are willing to train the right candidate which would mean starting as a Trainee.

If you are a proactive and enthusiastic individual wanting to help the residents of Broxbourne Borough strengthen their financial resilience and prevent homelessness, this maybe the role for you. It will involve providing expert welfare benefit advice, maximise income opportunities, and connecting people to local services that support long-term stability.

Your responsibilities will include delivering early homelessness prevention work, ensuring all available grants and funding are utilised to sustain tenancies and resolve rent arrears. You will work closely with partners such as housing associations, advice agencies, Broxbourne Foodbank, and other charities to link residents with resilience-building services. This varied role involves supporting diverse client groups, carrying out benefit calculations, completing assessments for the Housing Payment element of the Crisis and Resilience Fund (CRF), and providing tailored assistance to those at risk of homelessness or living in temporary accommodation. Acting as an advocate for clients, you will manage a caseload and maintain a person-centred approach throughout.

If you’re interested in this role, you must be computer literate and have a minimum of five GCSE or equivalent passes at least grade C, which should include English and Maths. Experience of money advice and welfare benefits advice is preferred for the role, but full training will be provided with an opportunity to study for a fully funded formal qualification of Accreditation in Money Advice under the Institute of Money Advisors (IMA). Some experience in a front facing role dealing with vulnerable or disadvantaged people is desirable. More important will be your ability to demonstrate your commitment to helping clients and to making a difference to their lives.

The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential. A full driving licence would also be advantageous.

This role requires a disclosure and barring service check as it is working with children or vulnerable clients.

We have adopted the core values of Teamwork, Innovation, Effectiveness and Respect (TIER).

The values and their underlying behaviours, demonstrate our commitment to providing excellent customer care, working in a joined up way, showing respect at all times and looking at innovation and forward thinking solutions. We pride ourselves on recruiting, developing and retaining talent who share this commitment.

We are committed to safer recruitment, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

The Council’s benefits package includes generous leave entitlement, a full training and development programme, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and free membership to the Council’s local leisure centres, which includes free access to gyms, swimming pools, fitness classes, racket sport sessions, a health suite and a range of generous discounts across other leisure and culture services.
