
Trading Standards Officer / Senior Trading Standards Officer
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic person to join our Trading Standards team. This post will build upon our established work, protecting consumers and legitimate businesses across Medway.
You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to deal confidently with a range of stakeholders and situations You will have a track record of successful investigations with the ability to prioritise your workload, assess complex situations and meet both corporate and statutory deadlines. The successful applicant will take the lead role for a discreet area of
Trading Standards law and will be required to represent the authority at a regional and national level.
You will be equally comfortable working alone and as part of a team of officers to achieve the goals of the service.
To be considered for this position you must hold a professional qualification in Trading Standards (DTS, DCA, DCATS or similar) and have recent experience in the role.
Medway Council has a career grade for Trading Standards Officers and your starting salary will be dependant on qualifications, experience and competences.
This position allows for the successful candidate to work from home for part of the week, subject to operational needs, with the main office base being Deangate Ridge, Hoo. You must hold a full driving licence and have access to a vehicle, that is insured for business use, for which the appropriate allowance will be paid.

Career Progression Frameworks (CPF) have been introduced for all roles at Medway Council. These frameworks provide a mechanism for employees to take ownership of their development within their post and be rewarded accordingly. This means that the salary you will be offered will be at level A unless, based on an assessment against the CPF criteria, you demonstrate that you are meeting the criteria of level B or C. There will be further opportunity once in post to progress from level A to B, and B to C.

Level C requires the highest level of competence and applicants would need to fully meet and demonstrate all aspects of the job profile, including qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience.
Trading Standards are seeking to appoint a Trading Standards Officer/Senior Trading Standards Officer. You can demonstrate knowledge, experience and skills to allow you to perform within this role. You will identify, through application, how you meet the elements detailed within the person specification, at either Level A, B or C. You will be supported to develop in your role through induction, probation and a supportive Performance Appraisal and Career Conversation. Through your induction you will be introduced to the Career Progression Framework (CPF), which will help you to identify your areas of strength and any development needs.
