
Trading Standards Authorised Officer (Level 6 Apprentice)
About the role
As a Trading Standards Apprentice, you will work with experienced professionals on the frontline, sometimes in confrontational situations, to investigate complaints, enforce consumer protection legislation, and promote fair trading practices.
Alongside your practical experience, you will complete the Level 6 Trading Standards Professional Apprenticeship, developing the technical, legal, and enforcement skills required to become a fully qualified Trading Standards Officer.
What will you be doing?
Your duties will include:
- Assisting in the investigation of consumer complaints and business compliance issues
- Supporting inspections of businesses to ensure compliance with legislation
- Help tackle rogue traders, scams, and illegal practices that harm residents
- Gathering and preparing evidence for enforcement action
- Providing advice and guidance to consumers and businesses
- Contributing to projects on product safety, fair trading, and fraud prevention
- Support education and awareness campaigns to prevent scams and protect vulnerable consumers
- Maintaining accurate records and case files
About you
We are seeking motivated individuals who are passionate about making a difference. You must have:
- A minimum of 5 GCSEs grade 9 - 4 / A* - C or above including English Language and Maths, plus two A-levels or equivalent.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Good analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Attention to detail and organisational skills
- A commitment to learning and professional development
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Good IT skills (e.g. Microsoft Office)
- A full driving licence.
