Town Centre Development Manager
Dudley Town Centre is entering one of the most important periods of change in a generation, with the arrival of Metro, the new Interchange and a growing programme of regeneration activity. Dudley Council is looking for a proactive and delivery-focused Town Centre Development Manager to help turn that investment into visible progress for businesses, residents and visitors.
The postholder will play a central role in managing and coordinating town centre development activity, business-facing support and place-based projects. This will include the Metro business support package, the High St Incubator scheme and wider activity designed to strengthen the town centre, support local businesses and make the most of the opportunities and benefits created by major transport investment.
Working across Council services, businesses, partners, contractors and consultants, you will help keep activity moving, resolve issues and ensure delivery is joined up on the ground. The role requires someone who can manage competing demands, build confidence with stakeholders and turn regeneration priorities into practical outcomes.
You will need to be confident operating in a busy and political environment, with the ability to manage relationships, monitor progress, support delivery partners and provide clear updates to managers, senior officers, members and stakeholders. This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to make a visible difference in Dudley Town Centre at a critical point in its regeneration journey.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Managing and coordinating Dudley Town Centre activity.
- Supporting delivery of the Metro business support grants and Town Centre Incubator scheme programme.
- Coordinating internal Council services, contractors, consultants, delivery partners and businesses.
- Supporting project planning, procurement, commissioning, contract management and delivery monitoring.
- Engaging with town centre businesses, traders, stakeholders and community representatives.
- Preparing reports, briefings, updates, risk information and performance information.
- Supporting delivery of town centre regeneration, public realm, business support and place improvement activity.
- Monitoring budgets, outputs, milestones and funding compliance.
- Helping manage stakeholder expectations and delivery risks.
- Ensuring activity supports town centre vitality, business resilience and wider regeneration outcomes.
About you
You will bring experience of town centre regeneration, placemaking, business support, project delivery, stakeholder engagement and/or a related field.
You will be able to demonstrate:
- Strong project coordination and delivery skills.
- Experience of working with businesses, partners, contractors or consultants.
- Understanding of town centre regeneration, economic development or place-based delivery.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work to deadlines.
- Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to prepare reports, briefings, project plans and delivery updates.
- Understanding of local government governance, procurement, risk and financial processes.
- A practical, resilient and solution-focused approach.
This role will involve regular engagement with businesses, partners and sites across Dudley Town Centre. A driving licence may be required, subject to final recruitment requirements.
