Job Summary
Are you passionate about protecting tenants’ rights and leading impactful enforcement work in the private rented sector? We are seeking a proactive and knowledgeable Tenancy Relations Officer dedicated to protecting tenants’ rights to join our Private Sector Housing Team.
This is an important time to join the service, as the Renters’ Rights Act introduces a wide-ranging transformation of landlord and tenant law. This is a key frontline role and the successful candidate will be involved in implementing and enforcing new statutory duties including enhanced protections against unlawful eviction, harassment and unfair rent increases. As a tenancy relations officer, you will oversee complex investigations and enforcement actions. You will have a good understanding of landlord and tenant law, ensuring legal compliance and safeguarding residents from unlawful eviction and harassment, and excellent communication skills.
Key responsibilities:
- Carry out investigations under the Protection from Eviction Act 1977 and the Renters’ Rights Act 2025.
- Undertake enforcement action including prosecutions, civil penalties and court applications.
- Provide expert advice to internal and external stakeholders.
Key knowledge and skills:
- Substantial knowledge of the key legislation related to landlord and tenant law including, but not limited to the Housing Act 1988, the Renters’ Rights Act 2025 and the Protection from Eviction Act 1977.
- Experience in investigating legislative breaches and producing legally robust reports for enforcement
- Excellent communication, analytical and decisionmaking abilities
Qualifications:
- Professional training in tenancy relations and landlord and tenant law.
- Minimum 5 GCSE’s including English and maths
