37 Hours per week - Full Time – Fixed term for 12 months
We’re now looking for an organised, customer-focused Technical Support Officer to join our Housing Property Services Team based at 19 Bennet Road, Reading, RG2 0QX. As a TSO you will help us deliver efficient and effective support across our maintenance and repairs functions. Our Housing Service plays a vital role in maintaining and improving council housing stock and delivering excellent service to tenants and leaseholders.
We seek the best talent from the widest pool of people as diversity and inclusion is the key to our success. Reading Borough Council is a Disability Confident Employer and is committed to the recruitment and continued employment of people with disabilities.
About The Role:
As a Technical Support Officer, you’ll be part of a busy operational team providing high-quality technical and administrative support to ensure smooth day-to-day delivery of housing repairs, maintenance and compliance activities.
Duties will include:
- Manage work orders and job tickets from start to finish – from raising to closure and invoicing
- Liaise with tenants, contractors, and colleagues to ensure excellent service delivery
- Maintain accurate records and databases, treating all tenant information confidentially
- Process purchase orders and invoices using the Council’s financial systems
- Produce and proofread documents, reports, and meeting minutes
- Support the collection and analysis of performance and customer satisfaction data
- Provide office cover, handle enquiries, and assist with training new staff
This is a varied and rewarding role where attention to detail and teamwork make a real difference to residents’ homes and experiences.
About You:
We’re looking for someone with strong administrative and IT skills, particularly in Excel and database management, who can work accurately and efficiently in a busy environment. You’ll be confident managing competing priorities and maintaining attention to detail while supporting the team to deliver a high-quality housing service.
You’ll have experience working with customers both in person and over the phone, demonstrating professionalism, empathy, and the ability to resolve enquiries effectively. Excellent communication skills are essential, including the ability to draft clear correspondence, take accurate minutes, and proofread documents to a high standard.
Ideally, you’ll also have some knowledge of housing repairs or the construction industry, though this isn’t essential — full training will be provided. Above all, you’ll be proactive, organised, and committed to delivering great service to residents and colleagues alike.
You’ll be part of a team that relies on each individual to play their part to the best of their ability. As well as the colleagues that you work closely with every day, you’ll also be part of Team Reading, playing your personal part in making Reading a successful and vibrant place.
Our vision is to ensure that Reading realises its potential as a great place to live, work and play, and that everyone shares the benefits of this success. Our values and behaviours guide how we will achieve this:
Work Together as one team - work collaboratively, with each other and with our partners, and demonstrate the Team Reading values in everything we do
Drive Efficiency - show initiative, be adaptable to change and put forward ideas to help improve delivery and efficiency. Take responsibility for our own learning and development and for reaching our potential
Be Ambitious - be demanding of our own performance – striving to be even better – and be prepared to engage with and challenge leaders in a constructive and positive way
Make a Difference to Reading - maintain the highest levels of customer service and be flexible and willing to provide the services needed at the time they are needed
