Are you someone who loves helping people, keeping things organised, and being right at the heart of a busy, purposeful team? Do you enjoy problem‑solving, variety, and work that genuinely makes a difference to the community?
If so, this could be the perfect role for you.
We’re looking for a person centred, proactive and organised Technical Support Officer to join our Environmental Health Team within Housing & Environmental Health. In this role, you’ll provide essential semi‑technical and administrative support that helps us protect public health, respond to local issues and deliver excellent services to residents.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with people, takes pride in accuracy, and thrives in a role with lots of variety. Every day will be a little different—from triaging service requests and supporting residents, to helping officers with licensing processes, FOIs, data, events and more. It’s a chance to develop your skills, be part of a friendly and supportive team, playing a key part in services that really matter to our communities.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll play a key role in helping residents access the right support by triaging Environmental Health enquiries, keeping our systems and records accurate, and assisting officers with a range of nuisance complaints, food hygiene inspections, licensing, events and case‑related tasks. You’ll also support FOI responses, help with financial processes, maintain key databases and website information, whilst working closely with colleagues, partners and residents.
Why join us?
Test Valley is a great place to work, it is a place for everyone, we support our communities, and our staff, to thrive. We pride ourselves on our culture and offer a professional, positive working environment with opportunities for all. Our organisation’s Values and Behaviours are reflected in the way we work with our communities, partners and staff.
You’ll also enjoy:
- A supportive team who will help you learn, grow and settle into the role
- The chance to contribute directly to services that make a real impact
- An environment that values kindness, respect, integrity and collaboration
We offer a range of benefits, details of these can be found here: Employee Benefits | Test Valley Borough Council
Who we’re looking for
You don’t need previous experience in Environmental Health or local government to thrive in this role — we’re ready to support and develop the right person. What matters most is your approach to work: someone who shares our values and behaviours, is motivated to provide excellent services for residents, and takes pride in contributing positively to their community. If you bring enthusiasm, a commitment to learning, and a desire to make a difference, we’ll help you build the technical knowledge you need to succeed.
