
Team Manager - Music and Cultural Education
An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a dynamic, forward-thinking, and experienced music professional to lead the Instrumental Music Service in St Helens.
We are seeking a candidate who can provide strong leadership and line management for our team of Instrumental Music Instructors, while continuing to deliver high-quality music education. You will also play a key role in creating performing opportunities for young people, ensuring music remains an enriching part of their educational experience.
The Instrumental Music Service is highly successful and widely valued by pupils, parents, schools, and the wider St Helens community. We are looking for someone who is creative and committed to maximising resources to deliver a fully inclusive and equitable service across all school communities. This role is pivotal in driving the service forward and ensuring its sustainability for the future.

Roles That Matter
As the leader of the Instrumental Music Service, you will play a vital role in shaping the future of music education across St Helens. Your work will ensure that young people have access to high-quality musical experiences that inspire creativity, confidence, and a lifelong love of music.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the economic, efficient, and effective operation of the Music Service.
- Develop, co-ordinate, and promote high-quality music education and care across all settings in the borough.
- Provide guidance, support, and intervention to ensure excellence in music provision.
- Work collaboratively with the colleagues to deliver the objectives of the Music Education Hub, including:
- Strategic leadership and direction
- Professional advice on resource allocation and financial outputs
- Risk and change management
- Embedding positive management behaviours
- Ensure compliance with the National Plan for Music Education, National Curriculum requirements, and guidance from the DfE and Arts Council for Music Education Hubs.
- Champion opportunities for young people to engage in music-making and performance.

You are an experienced and passionate music professional with a proven track record in leadership and service development. You bring creativity, strategic thinking, and a commitment to inclusivity. You understand the importance of maximising resources and delivering sustainable, high-quality music education. Your ability to inspire others and drive change will be key to ensuring the continued success and growth of the Instrumental Music Service.
